Hi All - Just bought my first Spyderco tonite. Been admiring them for a while. Of all the Spyders that I looked at up at the store, this one seemed to have the best weight, feel, etc., which is why I picked it. Question for you SpydeeFans: Now that the Calypso Jr Micarta is discontinued, did I get it at a good price? Also, anybody that would care to share some info on this knife, I'd appreciate it. I've been reading thru some of the other posts, and it seems like I got a good knife...
My BleedingFinger name is appropriate. My finger is bleeding from one of the other Spyders that I looked at but didn't buy (that was one darn easy-closing knife!). I figured if I wounded myself with it already, some other style might be better

PS - What is the difference in my knife and the Claypso Jr LWT? TIA

The Calypso Jr. LWT has a FRN handle & VG-10 steel. $50 is a good price for the Micarta Calypso Jr. You gonna love this knife! I own the above two versions and the LWT is my EDC. Now I just need to buy the Calypso Jr. II SS SE. Enjoy!

The Micarta Calypso was the first version with a Hi End handle
(micarta) and a everyday steel blade(Aus-8). While the Lwt. Jr.
had a low end handle (FRN) and a Hi End Steel blade( Vg-10).
The micarta version is probably the best balance for weight and
and ease of sharping. Aus-8 is very friendly steel. The micarta
gives ths knife a light & strong handle with a bit of pazazz thrown
in. Both are VERY good knives from slightly different approches.
Enjoy and welcome, Enjoy your stay.

I own a Micarta and Stainless Steel Calypso. I don't care much for the FRN ones. The Micarta was used for about one month and I decided to put it away for a while to preserve it since it is discontinued. Don't want to wear it out or lose it. I'd buy another one if I could. The stainless steel model will have a new bother soon so I am not so worried about it being that there will be a backup should anything happen to it.
You did get a great price for a great folder!
BTW the only thing better about the SS model is that it opens easier doing the Spydie drop because of it has more weight.

I bought one for about $82 in the Netherlands. So yes, it's a good buy.

Bought mine for $87 in Santa Barbara, CA. Way too much but I am still happy with it. You got a good deal.

Dear Bleeding Finger :
I "scooped" you on this one I think.
I got a micarta handle Calypso Jr. for
$39.95 last year from J&L Self Defense
Products ; the only "catch" was that it
had their logo "tatooed" on the blade.
However, a great knife. Just the right
size, and, sharp as hell !

I've just about convinced myself that I will have to buy another (maybe a Calypso FRN or Delica or Native so that I can keep my discontinued Calypso in tip-top shape

BleedingFinger, get the Calypso FRN. You may not be able to get it in 6 months.
