Did anybody see this premier last night? My wife and I gave it a go, mostly because we watched "The Closer" marathon and the show was advertised every commercial break.

Anyway, if anyone else caught it, what did you all think of the "illegal" and "dangerous" folding knife that was a centerpiece to one of the trials? That landed a guy in prison? A SWISS ARMY KNIFE? What message is TNT/Bochco trying to send here? (The accuracy of the plot and sentence is less relevant to me: my concern is the portrayal of the SAK Slipjoint as a "dangerous folding knife").

Alas... the show in general did not grab my attention, IMO it didn't live up to the "Bochco" hype. I think the David E. Kelley law shows are much better. I'll stick with The Closer, The Office, Doctor Who, Heroes, 30 Rock... and Boston Legal if I want a law drama. :D

Bochco and the people who made the show probably do consider the SAK a dangerous weapon; my guess is the production team and/or the writers are not a big knife carrying bunch.

I thought the show sucked. Halfway through I realized that there were no sympathetic characters, and that I just couldn't stomach watching Jane Kazmarac's judge character for one more minute, so I turned it off and went to bed.

I could tell from the commercials that at least one lawyer was going to survive, which placed it firmly in the "not worth watching" catagory for me. As for the portrayal of a SAK as a deadly weapon, that doesn't surprise me a bit. As far as Hollywierd is concerned everything that could be used as a weapon should be illegal. I have no idea how they think you can make a pie crust with a Nerf rolling pin, but the deadly rolling pin will doubtless be slammed in an upcoming episode. That is, if anyone watches the second episode.

Watched a little bit following the Closer. Turned of the TV and went to bed.

The prop people should have gone to their lighting and grip crews to see what knives real people carry and use.

Or, they should have just rewritten the show to have a knife being used by a good guy.

As the great movie writer and director John Milius used to say, "I knew you were one of those TV pukes."

I didn't see the show, but is it set in New York City? If so, the idea of an SAK as dangerous and illegal would fit right in.
