View Full Version : My First Spyderco!

Although I carry a Leatherman PST II at work, I've found that I often need a 'real' knife, but it had to be somewhat compact and discreet. I'm a knife novice, but I decided that it had to be a Spyderco. After lurking here on the forum for a while trying to get an idea of which one might best fit my needs, I narrowed it down to the LW Native, Delica or Calypso Jr. (thanks to all for the info!). On a whim, I stopped by the Remington store today at the Vacaville (CA) Outlet Stores. They didn't have a vast selection of Spyderco's, but they had those models in stock along with the Dragonfly, Dyad Jr. and Ladybug . Better yet, they were all on sale at what seem to be very competitive prices.

I wanted a serrated blade, but they didn't have that version of the Calypso Jr. in stock. Darn. At first I thought the Native might be a bit bulky when folded, but it really felt comfortable and solid in the 'working position'. And, for what ever reason, I like the fact that it's domestically made. The Native was the one, and I got it for $40.

I'm stoked with my purchase, but at those prices, I'm wondering if I can stop with just the Native...

I can't say enough about my PE Native.
Would you post the info on the place that has them for that price?
Oh welcome to the forum.

Jeff,
I picked up the Native (last one in stock) at the Remington (as in shavers, not guns) outlet store in Vacaville, CA. Here's link to a list of their store locations: <http://www.remington-products.com/buy/stores.html>. Don't know if they've got the same prices or selection at their other stores, but if there's one near you, it might be worth a call.

Sotyakr,

Welcome to the forum!
Like Sharp1 said it is a great knife and you got a screaming deal. You'll find this "little" Native to be an impressive knife, don't let it's size fool you. Is the blade steel Gin-1 or 440V? I think I paid about 55.00 for mine several years ago.
You should go back and buy what you can get your hands on... can't afford it? That's what credit cards are for

Welcome to SpydieLand, Dude!

LISTEN to Hoosierdaddy! He has some wonderful words of wisdom:

"...can't afford it? Thats what credit cards are for."

AMEN! Hey, that has been my past motto for some time.
"When in doubt, get the Visa out."

BTW, you got a killing on the Native, man.
Way to go! You will find that no matter how manny Spydie's you own, you will always have one calling your name. Better answer the call!

Enjoy your new toy!

To all: thanks for all of the welcomes! That's something I really like about this forum. I just may have to go back to snag that Calypso Jr.

BTW Hoosierdaddy, the Native looks to be one of the current run (?) with 440V steel and the Boye cutout. In any case, it's sweet!

Sotyakr,

You're correct, it is the newer model. A knife to look out for because it is very popular is an Endura. I have three, a FRN combo edge ATS-55, an earlier FRN plastic clip S/E AUS-8, and a S/S S/E AUS-6. It is a great knife, good for just about anything! The nice thing about Spyderco is they make a knife for every application, so you have lots to choose from. The bad thing is I want to own them all, in every variation !

I'm not saying go out and buy an Endura, because everyone has his (and hers, didn't forget you Kahz and La_benge) favorite Spydie. If you hang around here long enough you'll find the most popular models.

Good luck and welcome to the "club"

Good choice there Sotyakr.
The Native is one of the best all rounders out there.
