How do you find 154CM bladesteel?
dontknow if all the 154CM bladesteels from different companies are all the same,WRT heattreatment etc.
i find it quite nice. some say 154CM,is compareable to VG10.
but VG10 is definetely better IMO.
I like Crucible bladesteels,USA made.
i can definetly appreciate 154CM,as a edc bladesteel, for allround, satisfying usage, with good edgeholding and real good corrosion resistance.

I like 154CM. I've never had any problems with it. To me it is about like VG-10. VG-10 has been more corrosion resistant for me, and also seems to hold an edge a little longer.

I don't think it's a bad steel, and if Spyderco offered it I would probably buy it if it was the only option on the knife. If VG-10 or S30V were available I would take it over 154CM always.

I had a Benchmade Ares with 154CM steel, and I could not sharpen that thing to save my life. My Sharpmaker works great on VG-10, S30V, ZDP-189, etc, but I just couldn't get the 154CM back where I wanted it.

Wouldn't some 154CM be better than other 154CM,as with different heattreatment, that could better the edgeholding abilities on one, over the other?
i would definetly take 154CM over AUS-8 any day.

You make a very good point. I have a Camillus 'Cuda and BM Presidio in 154 CM - they are very close, but I find the 'Cuda a bit easier to sharpen. Same w/440C blades. My BM Griptillians are much harder to sharpen than others. I had a bit of difficulty on my Presidio at first and I think I was just being a little agressive on the brown rods of my Sharpmaker coming into the final strokes - sort of like how finicky D2 is:-) Just went along lightly and it was fine - little longer to sharpen but fine. I think VG-10 is still my favorite. Nothing wrong really with the others, but for what I do when I'm pushing my folders harder than normal AND in a hurry, it's a good balance between edge holding and edge retention. One of favorite hard use blades is the Kabar/Dozier folding hunter - it's AUS8 and actually quite amazing for the money - I've been away from collecting/accumulating for a bit and noticed when I bought my G-10 Police/SE and Tasman Salt/hawkbill/SE that there's a larger version available:D

I love that steel. Easy to sharpen. Excellent corrosion resistance.

I've had mixed experience with 154CM.

The 2 Benchmades I have in this steel take a keen edge and are easy to maintain. I am very happy with 154CM in those knives. Compares very well to VG-10, IMO. Same for my Camillus EDC.

My Byron skinner FB has never taken a good edge.

As noted above, the skill of the maker can be the difference.

I have a few in 154CM, but the grind on them (from the factory)is not what I like so I don't carry then much. It seems ok though.

I'll take any good steel, 154CM, ATS34, RWL34, D2, VG10, S30V, ATS55, AUS8, 12C27, whatever I can get sharp and stays that way long enough.
And that surely means good carbon steels too.
