Just figured I'd throw a heads up for anyone looking at network storage.
I was running with an ADS Tech kit, worked great except for crashing after 4-5 months. It'd work for a week or so and then have to be power cycled to have the network see it again. While that isn't bad for home use, it was being used as my FTP for the last month or so.
Picked up a Linksys NSLU2 this weekend, finally got around to setting it up tonight with a test drive. Other than speed (10MBps) it's looking good. The included setup disk got me nowhere, had to use the web tool. The real test will be tossing that 160gb drive from the old NAS on it and running a backup.
So far so good, minimal work involved to get it running. Good choice for anyone looking at a NAS.

I've got about 40gb of music on my drive at home... I've got everything but pop on it. Can blame the country section on my sister, got that when I pulled hers this spring.
Yep, I've got Dre and Nas on there so I'm not saying it's a bad choice, I'm just saying hendrix is better :p

I was gonna say, vampy, why not have your cake and eat it too...but I see that you are! :)
I like all the stuff you mentioned, I love rap, classical, pop, rock, jazz, etc....but won't get anywhere near country/bluegrass. :)

Vamp ol' Buddy I always knew there was a solid underlying reason I took a liking toward you and considered you a solid "blade brother" from day #1. ;)
Any man who recoginizes the magnanimous, superior talent of "THE MAN" Jimi Hendrix is a man of culture, refinement and an appreciation of the arts. And I'll go along with your assessment of Jimmy Page & Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin as well.
Vamp you sure got your ducks in a row when it comes to your tastes of the fine arts  Eddie Van Who????

Alrighty, now that the music discussion is out of the way, lets get back to the storage discussion :p
only bug I've found is not being able to use the "log in as admin" option from a linux system, but I didn't try doing it from a root login to see if that helped my access issue. Guest login on the NAS lets me write but not cut and paste within the unit.
Who knows, might have to use the same trick as windows and run the file manager as root.
After spending about 20hrs dealing with a couple system errors at the courier company by the time I get to look at my systems around midnight I'm already tired of staring at a screen. I've been banging my head on this one since saturday afternoon.
Been dealing with a file server with a worse attitude than a 14 year old, and users not keeping ANY error logs. I get told "the server crashed today and there with a couple problems with X's system and Y couldn't open a few files". Great. Real helpful.. Just about as much fun as being given a computer with the entire message being "It's acting weird".
