I have a question (Mr. Janich, or other experts) concerning the neck knives:

How would you compare the Ronin to Fallkniven's WM-1, and to the REKAT's Pikuni, (especially concerning the defence ability)?

I have only the WM-1. Never had the other two in my hands.

The Ronin is certainly best suited for the defence, as far as I can guess. The WM-1 is very strong with full tang and long handle. Pilkuni's handle might be a little bit short. Again, my guess.

Since it is very difficult to get either Pilkini or Ronin in the Europe, I would like very much to know the expert's opinion on the WM-1.

Regards,

Franco

Dear Franco:

I'm not familiar with a WM-1, so I'll have to do a little research. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thanks for your patience.

Dear Franco:

I checked out the WM-1 on the Fallkniven web site and it looks like a great knife. The design is very sound and the size and weight are just right for a neck knife. The fact that it's made from VG-10 is also great as it will resist rust extremely well -- an important consideration for a knife worn close to the body.

The only drawback I saw to the design was the way the neck cord was threaded through the kydex sheath. When the holes in a sheath are very close together, the sheath has a tendency to spin. This can cause the knife to "print" through your shirt more easily and may not keep the knife in a predictable orientation for a quick draw (the last thing you want to do is draw your knife and find that the edge is facing the wrong way). If possible, drill another hole in the kydex to space them further apart and keep the knife flat against your chest. With that slight modification, you should have a vry serviceable personal defense knife.

Thanks for your patience.

Stay safe,
