View Full Version : Which of these steels would you choose?

Among the following steels, which one would you choose for a blade that gets light use?



1) ATS-34

2) BG-42

3) 440C

4) D-2

5) A-2

Mate, NONE of the steels you've listed are "good"
for light use per se. All are hi end stainless expensive
steel. For light everyday use Aus-8 , Aus-6 or 440A
would be much better cost effective steels with Aus-8
leadinb the pack.

Hi Hy. Need more input. light use could be something requiring very sharp, etc.

What types of things will you be cutting? Opening your mail with a knife will take the edge off much faster than you would think.

Hi Tightwad and Sal, I'm looking for a steel that I will be using mainly for edc chores such as opening boxes and cutting string. I only have a choice between these 5 steels and am looking for one with a balance between rust prevention and edge retention. Thans for the help.

Well hy I'd definately say BG-42, but then I know what it's for <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.
