Mr. Glesser,

We know lots of information on the history of the Spyderco Company, the evolution of Spyderco products, etc. through various sources including "The Spyderco Story". And we're familiar with the philosophies that Spyderco is guided by.

Except for some brief antedotes in Blade Magazine (the "road warrior'" and the bread truck stories) and other industry sources I have not seen much information on you!

If you don't feel it's too personal of a question, could you fill us in with some background?

Thanks!

Hi John. the "Bread truck" stories; Gail & and I converted an old International step van (originally a bread delivery truck) into a "Motorhome" and lived in it and travelled around to shows. My daughter Christina, travelled with us until she had to begin school. As we became more successful, we graduated from the truck to a truck & trailer. We settled in Golden in Nov '78.

"Road Warriors" was the name we gave to the salesmen that travelled around in the early days from show to show and demonstrated Spyderco products to the public.

Hard to tell what info you would like?

Hi Sal,
Thanks.
What led you to developing knives? Is your educational background in engineering? What do you feel were some of your early philosophical influences?
Childhood / family background?
I thought it would be interesting to learn more about you and hadn't seen very much.
There seems to be information about the Buck family, William Scagel, Bob Loveless and other pioneers and leaders and thought it would be of interest to all of us.

Hi John. My background has thus far taken 57 years. It has been very varied in many areas.

Born in Bklyn, NY. Stone & Dumont area.
Knife interest goes back to about 6 years old. No particular reason that I can remember, but I have always been intrigued by primitive weapons and their development.

Studied Psychology and Philosophy mostly. Took a variety of engineering, art, design, sociology and anthopology classes.

Manufacturing background is in aerospace printed circuit cards. Prototypes, very close tolerance.

Married, two children, two grand children. Live in a small house in the mountains of Colorado (about 9500' altitude).

Like high performance cars, motorcycles and sailboats and of course, knives. I have always been passionate about the areas listed.

Have done cabinet making, bee keeping. Got heavy into biology. Raised snakes for a while.

I guess that's a start?

I'm heading out of town but have a few questions when I get back.
Take care!
