View Full Version : Enough with the Best, What's the Worst Knife?

While many threads have been devoted to the noble search for the finest folders ever made, no one has yet breached the topic of the bad knives, the ones you want to tell people to avoid.
So how about it? What's the worst knife (not a knockoff, an actual, established company) that you've ever seen?
This is totally your opinion, so any experience is valid.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Camp USA. They make a knife that somewhat resembles the Delica. Two hours after I got it, the lock quit working, and I could close the knife w/o the lock at all.<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I would have to say Frost knives. My cousin's friend had a nice-looking one that had a Pakkawood handle. Just like Brian mentioned about Camp knives, the lock on this one failed as well. Also, beware of some of Schrade's stuff. I looked at their new L&W Toughlock model and the darn liner lock was so flimsy that it wasn't even funny.
Don't get me wrong, I once collected Old Timers.....a pretty good knife.

Imperial is the worst I have had.

I had a hunting knife (name, if it had one, eludes me) when I was a kid that shined like the back bumper on a new Caddy. However, when I tried to sharpen it the chrome flaked off like a bumper from an old Chevy Vega I saw in the junkyard.

I was just channel surfing after I read this post and coincidentally these caught my eye, how 'bout those 8 for $49.95 'bargain' folders on the 'Shop at Home' network? No first hand experience, but I can only imagine what they're like.

Jaguar... the *~~King of Crap~~*
seen too many people buying them for "such a deal", then complaining when it busted the same day. The 3" for $5(Canadian) broke them too bad...
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Even respected names can produce a bad one now and then. Schrade's "Clip-Hangar" comes to mind.

Nieto.
It's Spanish and it's supposed to be pretty good quality.
I paid about $25 for a folder, 440C steel.
It sucked. It lasted for about 6 months, then the lock quit owrking. I still don't know if it was beacuase of crappy materials or stupidity of one of my co-workers, but I really don't want another Nieto.

How about the Buck HitchHiker model?

I'll agree with Gronk on this one. Regarding the CliffHanger, the first one I purchased had a faulty linerlock which would not lock unless you pressed hard on the choil. The second version is fine mechanically, just the linerlock is so weak in appearance that I don't trust it.
Don't read me wrong, I really like Old Timers and most of Schrade's lineup. This knfe just needs more development.

(check the dates)
Dollar store never needs sharpening.
I did pick up a few chisel ground broad blade steak knives which work well for cutting roots while digging, areating plant pots, or other digging in the dirt type gardening activities.
They have real serrations, so it seems to have sharpend back up well.

sotyakr,
I've bought from Shop At Home in the past and have a friend who does now. Forget it. You'll get one maybe two halfway decent knives out of the set,the rest will be crap. If you see anything you really like,go to Smoky Mountain(www.eknifeworks.com) and sort through their Frost and other cheap knives.
Or better idea:instead of buying a set of knockoffs, spend the money on one real Spydie.
