View Full Version : Another paycheck, another Spydie.

Never being one to pass up a bargain (one of my many character flaws...), I went back to the outlet store where I purchased my Native to find it a 'companion'. It was either going to be the Dragonfly (they have in SE) or a Calypso Jr. PE. The Dragonfly really is a nice little package, and I was initially a bit hesitant to buy another knife that was similar in size to the Native. But, the Calypso Jr. has received so many rave reviews, it was only few dollars more, and it couldn't hurt to have a PE blade around. The clincher came when handling it. Compared to the Native, the Calypso Jr. just seemed to have a very different 'personality' (sorry about anthropomorphizing) that I also liked.
I don't think either will have tough time finding it's place. The Native has begun to prove it's usefulness at work, and the Calypso Jr. will accompany me everywhere else.
Hope this latest little Spydie fix will take care of the cravings for a while!
A man (or woman) after my own heart. First sign of a bit of spare cash and my mind automatically turn to spydies.
Two great choices by the way, two of my favorites.

sotyakr,
Nice purchase! I own a Native II and a Calypso Jr. Lwt. Both knives are very nice.
Enjoy!

Uh oh, here I go again. Next time the urge hits, I think a Snap-It might be a necessity. Should be just the thing to hang on the PFD for kayaking...

Calypso Jr, very good choice. I'm curently saving up for a Mouse, and my wallet's a bit anorexic lately. Oh well, great knives, great prices, what more can I say?
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Good selection, you can't go wrong with a Calypso JR.

Good choice. The Native was my first buy as well, followed by a Rescue Jr, then the Calypso Jr. PE. It has a different feel, and I wish it had a deeper choil (always feel like my forefinger's gonna slip onto the blade during a hard cut), but it feels good in my hands, and a PE blade is useful and less intimidating than my Native's 35/65 combo edge.

Sharp1,
Thanks for the tip on the red Snap-it! I'll check out the AGRussell site.
Right now, I'm just paddling a Scrambler XT. I know it makes a good platform for fishing and diving, but I havent' tried either from it yet. I have been tempted though when the salmon are running through the Carquinez Straits (between the Sacramento delta and SF Bay) since I live about 30 feet from the water.
I've been thinking about something a just tiny bit quicker like a Scupper. I also saw a sweet SOT made by Seda at my kayak shop of choice up in Fort Bragg (just north of Mendocino), NoyoPacific Outfitters. We'll see how the tax refund looks... If it's a small one, the Snap-it might be it, if it's a little more substantial, I just might 'need' a new boat.
