Has anyone ever bought a Spydie in a Remmington Store? We have a few of them around this area and they seem to have a fair selection, but not usually the newest models and their prices seem very very high?

The couple Remington stores that I've seen in the area, didn't really have much of a selection of Spydercos, at all. I've only seen a couple big stores with a fairly substantial collection - Chesapeake Tool & Knives, and Sawyer's Cutlery.

Chesapeake (in the Natick Mall and at Fanueil Hall) sell Spydercos at list price - I got my first, an SS Native, for around $95. I'm happy with the knife, but a bit disappointed after doing some browsing online and noticed a substantially lower price for the SS Native.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Sawyers Cutlery. They're in Hingham, and they have a wide selection of all brands of knives. Good prices too.

I just picked up a Native and Calypso Jr. (both lightweights) at a Remington outlet store here in Northern CA. Their Spyderco selection wasn't too extensive here either, but I got both on sale for $40 ea. and I think they regularly sold for about $50. Even at the 'regular' prices, I guess that's not too outrageous.

Thanks nomaded and sotyakr for your input. I guess I'll keep checking the Remmington stores and maybe catch a buy. I did buy a Meerkat at Chesapeake in the Natick Mall last November and I'll try Sawyers the next time I'm on the south shore.

Thanks again

The problem with Spydies is that nobody around me has a decent selection, save one place. That one place is still a good 30 miles, and their prices are consistently more than what I would pay ordering from Spyderco itself.

The stores near me are so limited that I exhausted the variety of Spydies very fast. All they carry: Endura 50-50 FRN, Native 50-50 SS and Ladybug. It is very difficult to find a good store that has both a decent selection and decent prices.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

S&S... I have the same problem. The selection near me (within ~50 mile radius) is hit and miss and the prices aren't that good. I find that SFO, as well as other .com dealers are the only ones with good selections. Fortunately, Spydies high quality, catalogs, web sites, and this forum are big helps when deciding on the Spydies to buy "sight unseen" if you will. I've never been to a knife show, and don't know if they are ever in my area, but maybe that would also be very helpful. OR... maybe Sal will find some vendors who will stock the whole family in our areas!

Good luck,
Gary

I agree with you Gary. That's the exact thing I said to Jim at Sawyers Cutlery last saturday, when I made my first trip to the store (and I know it won't be the last - my poor wallet).

Before finding this store, I was buying mostly online. But at this time, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. If I order online, I don't pay sales tax, but I do pay shipping. But buying from a B&M means sales tax, but no shipping costs, instant gratification and the chance to handle the merchandise before paying.

As for a knife show, I'll keep my eyes peeled for one. There was a gun show up in Salem, NH about a month back, and I'm sure there would be some Spydercos to be bought there, but I was trying to keep my spending in check, with the holiday season (at the time), and all.
