Great art Jim, sorry I can't come up with much better than that. I especially like the worm and apple. Sending a pm regarding the skull and an idea.

Thanks, guys. Jimbo, PM replied to.

The Panzer Commander came from a pic I snapped last year at the WWII Weekend in Reading, PA. It was a reenactor in the commander's hatch of a Stug III Assault Gun, and when I saw the pic, I knew I had to draw it.

The worm and apple I saw in a tattoo book, and thought it really looked neat, so I did my own rendering of it.

I saw the skull in a magazine somewhere and figured it would be neat to draw my own version of it.

Thanks again for the compliments, guys.

You've got more drawing talent in your fingernail than I have in my whole 300+ pound body;)

Very nice Jim and thanx for sharing:cool:

Yessir, you are correct, it's an MG-34.

Guys, I'm really not that great of an artist.
Alas, whatever I draw, I have to have a photo of some subject to look at in order to put it on paper. Everything you see here was drawn from looking at some type of picture. What I usually do is try to alter it somewhat, to put my own style on it.

At the WWII Weekend in Reading, PA this year, I snapped a photo of a reenactor (The Panzer Commander) as he was sitting in the commander's hatch of a Stug III Assault Gun. As soon as I looked at that photo, I knew I had to draw it. And I have to say, there's a lot of satisfaction that I have for that piece, since I did the whole process, from snapping the photo to putting the drawing on paper.

Thanks so much for all the kind words of support and compliments from you guys. But honestly, I do not consider myself to be that great of an artist.

To tell the truth, my sense of proportion really sucks; I sometimes put complicated subjects on a light table and make an outline that way just to get the shape of the drawing correct. You just overlay the drawing paper over the top of a photo and make a light tracing as the light illuminates the photo. That way, I know I have the outline 100% correct and it saves a ton of time. On the other hand, I consider it to be "cheating" and I'm ashamed to do it that way.

I could do the outline on my own, but I suck at it, and it takes me a ton of time. The light table saves time.

Now the shading and details - that's all me! I'm a shading and detail freak! I LOVE to do that.

nice work jim, you should try your hand at tattooing...i am sure some of your "guests" would happily let you pratice on them, but the bosses might frown on it.

Yeah, Tony, my bosses seem to frown at everything! They're some of the most ill-humored people I've ever met, to tell you the truth. The happier I am, the more miserable they are. And it's damn near enough to take the wind out of a fellow's sails. But not quite.:D

Jimd, great work, truly a talent as said by others. As for your bosses, dig your heels in, how dare they try and make you feel bad while you feel good and happy. If you submit to them then they win, and we happy people need to win.

They do not have the power to make me feel anything at all, unless I choose to give them that power. We are the only ones who can decide how we feel.

As such....screw 'em! :D

Great work on your renderings Jim. Fine work IMHO. Your work is getting better and better every day. Like Tony, I too think you might want to give tattooing a go :p

Not sure why you question your own skills in drawing/ rendering. With practice comes confidence. Your sense of proportion that you worry so much about can only be overcome if you give it a go. Who cares if you don't quite get it right. You've got rendering down to a fine art. Go stuff around with the rest. I bet you doodle a lot, and so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Keep them coming mate... love your work.

You guys are great confidence-builders, with all the kind words and such! Thanks so much!

You know, I've thought about tattooing a time or two. Might give it a go some time in the future. I'd need to find someone to apprentice under, of course.

I've weighed some of the pros and cons of tattooing, and off the top of my head, here's what I've come up with:

Pros:
1. I'd work for myself.
2. Good money.
3. Might be able to work from home (that could be both good & bad).
4. I could make money doing what I love.

Cons:
1. You never know who will walk through your door.
2. Buy & maintain my own equipment.
3. Customers can be lunatics.
4. Doing artwork that I'm not really "into" can become a chore rather than a fun thing.

Overall, I think I could learn to do it pretty well. On the other hand, you're working with a medium that's rather permanent, and at least at first, I'd be scared of messing someone's skin up! People are kinda funny about that sort of thing, y'know.

Who are some folks that you do NOT want to hear the words, "Oh, $hit!" from?:D
-Tattooists
-Surgeons (especially heart or brain specialists)
-Accountants
-Auto Mechanics

Anybody have any other insights or experience regarding the tattoo angle of this thing? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Chris, great to see you, bro'! It's been ages since we talked!

I thought the worm was neat the first time I saw it. I knew I had to draw it. Love the shape of the eaten apple and the toothy smile. Kinda cartoon-ish, but it also a good amount of detail contained within.

What have you been up to these days? We gotta talk a bit, send me an email if you get a chance. Gotta get some things headed up your way.
