Ice Fishing Trip

Going down Maine with 20 guys for an ice fishing weekend. Some stay in a house while others of us sleep in tents. We'll do some x-c sking, snow shoeing, hiking, fishing, eating, and, of yes, a bit of drinking and a lot of story telling. However, one of the highlights of the weekend is always the knife sharpening event. Everyone brings their knives and their sharpeners. Just like our fall fishing/camping weekend I think my 204 will make the sharpest edges. Just in case someone brings a new "hot" contender... I brought my secret weapon, my new ultra fine stones. I'll let you know what shows up for knives and who wins the sharpening contest next week.

Ultra fine stones? That's cheating! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> After you win, and victory IS assured with the 204, rub it in a bit by shaving with cup, brush, and a Spydie the next morning. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Well the Ice Fishing Trip was great!! It was very clear and cold 10s - 20s during the day and 0 - 10s at night. I slept outside in a sleeping bag in a snow trench... it was toasty and the stars were just exquisite overhead. We caught a few fish, but nothing to write home about. Our store-bought steak made a much better dinner.
After the &quot;former&quot; sharpening champ finished 4 knives with his Lansky sharpener... I proceeded to sharpen them further with the ultra stones... blowing him away. The 204 was the winner!
As far as knives... the Buck Mini Strider &quot;first prod&quot; won first prize. I got honorable mention in the new concept category for the Meerkat.
I also won drink of the trip for an expresso martini... rim the martini glass with raw sugar, shake with ice .5 oz kahlua, 1.5 oz vodka, 2 oz expresso, and a splash of vanilla... ummm smooth and it keeps you awake while it knocks you out... <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
