This is a good reference work that comes from- http://www.cutleryscience.com/reviews/blade_materials.html

It's a long but worth the read...It would have taken me ten posts to fit it onto the forum so I figured I'd just give you the link and you can save it for yourself.....Doc:D.

Doc that is really some great reference information. I've got a small collection of Machinery's Handbooks put out by Industrial Press which are also full of great information on metal working and machinist's reference material.
I'm definitely going to print all of that off tomorrow. Crucible has some really good information on their blade steels on their websites as well. Thanks for getting us up to speed on that one Doc :)

I would say there is some good information there, but wouldn't take the testing info as "gospel" or fact. You should consider that it is one individual writing a review on some tests that he performed. There has been endless controversy over these tests, and I don't want to bring any of that here, but I think readers should consider it a review much like most any others that are available out there. Just my .02 cents.

Larry I do agree with you..that being said there is still a lot of good info contained within that can be useful...even if it is only to make you think about your own experiences or to do some of your own testing to validate or rule out these findings...Doc:D

You just have to read his data and draw your own conclusions. He sharpens his knives to ridiculous acute angles like 15° inclusive, but it does show you the differences steel can make, like his test (http://cutleryscience.com/reviews/edge_testing_II.html) for VG10 and AUS8.

I agree with your two cents. In addition I would like to say that many people intrepid these tests absolutely wrong. When somebody test several knives, they test knives, not steels.
One friend of mine drove his Plymoth Horizon only doing preventative maintenance up to 220K miles and sold it with original engine, transmission and so on. My other friend had to replace transmission on her Acura at 51K. But if I would say that transmissions on most of Plymoths last at least four times longer than on Acuras, it wouldn't sound reasonable. The same with interpretation of those tests.
