Hey party people

It took me 15 minutes to find a book of matches after throwing away 2 lighters in my house today to light a candle. It got my gears rolling about what i would have done if i didnt have them in my backpack (besides not lighting a candle i my house ) and i was not home. Or in the wild. Emergency situation, ect. 15 minutes would have been too long in the cold...

I didnt want to hi-jack JD's thread on survival but i wanted to focus specifically on starting fires/lighting candles.

I've seen a few of you carry a peanut lighter on your keys which is really cool, but are there other options? It looks like the fuel wouldn't last too long. What other small (key ring or folding knife) devices are out there you have had experience with? Would you recommend waterproof match container or a fire starting rod? Ideas everybody! We all got them!

This is a huge topic.

Huge.

I guess I would ask you what you want this fire starting device to do....

Will you be able to refill it? If so, then some sort of lighter will do.

But, if you go with a ferro rod, you will have to learn the foundations of fire. But, you won't be able to light a candle real easy....

For me, I carry a fire kit, with multiple methods of starting a fire, including multiple tinders.....
