I ordered a new knife last week and it was supposed to be delivered today according to my Email. When I checked the email conformation # on USPS website it says it was delivered Wednesday Dec. 10, and I still have not received my knife.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I am pretty sure that the Mail guy put my package in the wrong box. I live in an apartment with one of those big Mailbox units for the whole complex. We get our neighbors mail all the time, and I wouldn't doubt that my knife got put in the wrong box. I checked the Office to see if someone turned it in but wasn't lucky. After three days of not seeing my knife since it was "delivered" and I'm the only one with a mail key to my box, I doubt I'm gonna see this knife ever. $60 for a new Tasman Salt down the drain. I just hope the knife I ordered for my dad doesn't end up the same fate.

Sorry for the rant

Sorry to hear of your bad news...I know first hand it happened to me, as well as finding sensitive mail outside of my mailbox...I complained to the postmaster...now my mail carrier hates me...but they did put my last name on a sticky tab inside the mail box FWIW it seems to have helped. The mail carrier confronted me and she got an ear full that she really didn't want to hear, but that seems to have worked as well...the carrier is a lot more careful with my mail nowadays...but still makes faces at me when I see her...Oh well..at least it's not a problem anymore.....Doc:D

You have my condolences.

Are you sure there is no way to complain about the faulty delivery? Was the knife sent with delivery confirmation? Can you complain to the postmaster at the local post office, and suggest that an error was made on the carrier's part?

There is still the outside chance that your e-mail may be not-so-correct in its estimate of delivery date. I've had that happen before. Best of luck.

I'm very fortunate: I don't know my mail carrier, but I get very good service. Nothing has failed to reach me, as yet. Occasionally I get a letter in my box that's for my landlady, but it's a simple matter of crossing the porch to her box.

I am going to the post office tomorrow. I wasn't expecting the knife until today so I didn't know it had already been "delivered". I had a tracking number thats how I found out that USPS already classified it as "delivered". I left a note in my mail box with the hope that the mailman sees it tomorrow and can correct the error. If not the postal workers and not going to like me very much.

Very recently I had a package say it was shipped on Dec. 12. and then supposedly delivered on Oct. 8 2008 in PA (which is clearly wrong, as I'm from NYC). I nearly flipped out this morning when I got that information, but upon reflection, it is always possible to have some mix-ups and I'll start worrying when I don't see it by the end of next week

I have another package that should have arrived yesterday but still no sign of it. It was in a town 5 miles away on the 10th, so I am a little annoyed. But as RIOT mentioned, it is the holiday season and more packages than usual are going through the system.

I hope my frustrations with the USPS during the holiday season ease you on yours. It's always better feeling not alone.

Uggh hope it works out.

I hate sending or receiving packages around the holidays. The Postmen are so busy they a get a little goofy. I've been at home on days and found those little "nobody was home you have to come to a post office to get your package" notes. I know for certain the mailman just ran up to my door, put the sticker on and ran away without even knocking.

IMO, the chances of getting something lost are higher during the holiday season because of the overall volume.

Yep I was right. I left a note in my mail box for the postman saying that I was expecting a package and that the conformation said it was already delivered but I haven't received it.

I checked my mail and there was the key to the large lockers next to our mail box for larger packages. He put the key in the wrong box. Luckily the apartment to which the box belonged was vacant.

I now have my Tasman Salt in hand, and I am very happy.

Good result. Congratulations on choosing a terrific knife.

The NBUs can be dark and poorly labeled as to which address is associated with which pidgeon hole. You might want to take a marker and clearly write your address inside yours. Nobody seems to maintain the gang boxes and the opening mechanisms can injure and thereby distract the mail carrier.

My mailbox (we have semi centralized mailboxes here for both apartment and house) has paper sticker inside clearly labels the address and street number, not sure if postal office did that or mailman did, but nothing has gone missing since I lived here a bit over two years ago.

DM,

That's awesome bro. I'm glad it turned out for the best. When something like this happens (I have had it happen before) it makes me appreciate that particular knife even more.

I hope you enjoy that bad boy and have a nice Christmas! http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/1854/christmastreedp9.gif

Very good ending to a rather common problem with community mail boxes and the like. Always follow up with the postmaster when it is sent 'delivery confirmation' and you do not receive.

One way I try to deal with this is register my office address with Pay Pal in addition to my residential address to have the ability to choose where I want a particular item sent. Non-pay pal stuff I just fill out the "shipping address" part of the online form after the billing form, to be sure I get it at the office. I'm there all day and in the event the package is delivered to a adjacent office, they know us and immediately drop it by.

Glad to hear things worked out. Our boxes here are like that, but all have stickers with the apartment # in them and some of us have added one with our name to make things easier for the mailperson. Still get a letter for someone else occasionally, but never had a package wind up in my box by mistake. We have the parcel lockers too, so I guess a mistake with the key for one of them is possbile. Still, safer than the various parcel services which just leave things in the hallway in front of my door. Most folks here are decent and honest, but we've had a few doozies here over the years.
