my van was hit by a drunk driver saturday...
... but it's not what you might expect...
here's what happened...
1) i bought my van for $400 last year
2) it served me faithfully for a year until
3) it broke down last week, so
4) i parked it along the street, waiting to figure out what to do with it
5) news made it back to me that many people in town were talking about a van just like mine that was completely destroyed
6) in the same area where i parked my van, so
7) i walked down the hill to check it out, and
8) found it was indeed my van... the back driver's side was COMPLETELY smashed in, the frame looked bent... extensive, extensive damage.
9) i called the cops, who told me a drunk driver hit it, and arrested for DUI
10) guy has the same insurance company as me
11) the insurance company asked me to take pictures of it, because i live on an island, and they don't really have an adjuster
12) they pay me $2,000 for the vehicle, and are having it towed away!!!
so yea... i ended up making a $1,600 profit off of the vehicle... i had been planning just to give it away to someone who needed parts. i don't feel too bad about gaining from the situation, as i've lost a good deal of money selling 2 vehicles way below their value on two different occassions when i've moved to work as a volunteer. and no, the drunk driver was not hurt.
how's that for a great xmas surprise???! :D
