View Full Version : need some advice please
Hello. I just would like some advice as to which knife would be the most "sheeple friendly": the Ladybug or the Co-pilot PE?
I am a college student at a large University, and I was wondering which of these two spyderco's would be most accepted. Co-pilot vs. Ladybug?
Thanks.

Well I seem to think that they are both sheeple friendly, because of their size.
However if I were you I would go with a Co-Pilot, because it is discontinued (I think) and plus it was made for people that travel on airplanes, which means it would have to be sheeple friendly. (I doubt you would be able to get on an airplane now though with one.)
Or better yet, since the Ladybug can be found for 20 dollars and the Co-Pilot for around 40, you should get both

No matter what anybody tells you there isn't a more
"people" friendly knife that the Swiss army knife.
Anything else WILL get noticed.

The Lady bug is a little more friendly But not that much. The co pilot is a much better knife so go with it,anyone who would be ofended at it don't need to walk the streets.

Wow, am I glad that I live here. I carried a C48 Tim Wegner or a BM Mini-AFCK everyday during my last couple of years of college. Carried an old Pacific Cutlery 3.25" Tanto bladed Bali-Song in my back pocket all through hi-school (and it was obvious, it wore holes in every pair of jeans that I had).
I honestly can't imagine anyone worrying about either one of these two knives. I have never played with a Co-Pilot, but have carried a Ladybug everywhere from school to airports and into federal court. I would get a red or blue one and put it on my keys.

revolvergeek,
You'd be surprised at what some people take exception to in this world anymore. Remember, the 9/11 terrorists used box cutters, blades, that when out, aren't much longer than either of the above knives.

Have you considered the almite(slotted) Navigator. It has been my EDC for over a year now. I carried it around campus clipped to my right front pocket and it never drew any undue attention.

If I had to choose between a Co-Pilot and a Ladybug, I would choose the Co-Pilot, since both are fairly small and fairly sheeple-friendly. The Co-Pilot is larger than the Ladybug, so it would be more useful in most situations.
If you're willing to try a different knife, I would suggest the Meerkat as a better alternative to those two. It's about the size of the Co-Pilot, has a nice high wire-clip, so it doesn't scream "KNIFE!" when clipped to a pocket. And it also has the neat Phantom-Lock that you can show off to people.

Mike,
Have you considered a Dragonfly? This small, delicate-looking design is just perfect for my spec's for "college carry". I carry it in the waistband of my jeans, and not a soul has ever noticed it. I just got my second 'fly today, this one a CF serrated model. Sweet, sweet knife! I also have a CF plain edge, and it looks slightly more 'sheeple' freindly as it doesn't have any teeth.
Whatever you buy, make sure it has the "BUG" on it....
Happy hunting!

I suggest you get two knifes, one for utility and one for defense if you have a need for it. Only show the utility knife and keep the other hidden. There are too many Spydies to select from, just pick ones that appeal to you in the size needed.

Dear Mike :
I myself carry the C 29BK "Cricket" ; I
found that the liner locking mechanism
is "faster on the draw" than with the
"Ladybug", "Co-Pilot", "Dragonfly" or any
of the smaller Spydies. I also prefer
the "tip down" carry ; The blade SEEMS to
deploy faster with the combination of
liner lock / tip down. Although I may
stand corrected.
Anyone ?

IMHO, Liner lock and tip up would deploy quicker with a reverse drop. And...since we are on the topic, tip up compression lock (once it is broken in) is the quickest deployment we make in my opinion.
Although, one does have to consider the Viele!!!!!!
