View Full Version : Gun Scopes ?
Hello,
I just bought a Remington 700 SS R5 Milspec barrell, it comes in the .308 only
My question is though, i cant really afford the Nightforce scope i want right now becuase its $ 1800.00
I ended up buying a Super Sniper Scope 20 x 42 that was recomened to me for $ 400.00 with rings, base, shade and caps
Does anyone here have a Super Sniper that can comment on it ?
Thanks
Will

I have one 10X42 and it has performed well on my .308 VLS for a good while, now it is relegated to my 10/22 since the VLS got a very nice Zeiss:D
Good clear picture, holds it's zero and good (if a bit mushy at times) clicks.
I think 20x is a bit high for anything except benchrest, but that is just me;)

The Super Sniper scope is good scope and a great deal. I looked at getting one for a long time. I never got one since I was looking at a scope for my AR, and thought the SS would be too big. If I had a good bolt gun and needed a get me by scope it would be a SS until I could afford a Nightforce or US optics.
IIRC To get rid of the mushy clicks in the turrets, all you have to do it take off the turret cap and clean off the Oring. The put extra grease inside to improve it being waterproof.
But it is a very strong scope.

10x is the best general use scope. Yes 10x can be used out to 1000yds, and from what I've talked to people about the SS has plenty of MOA to get out to 1000yds. For practical shooting and hunting 20x will probably be to much. Shooting from a bench is fine. It will be a little hard to keep steady because with higher magnification every movement is magnified. Also with higher magnification you have a smaller field of view.

I can't really help you, RIOT, but is that an IMI Galil variant in 7.62x51, NoFair?

Looks a bit like it, but it is a customized Super Vepr in 7.62x51. Shoots very well and is pretty quiet :D

Riot: 10X is okay at 1000m if you are shooting at human sized targets. 20X is better at 1km, but field of view is a bit small. I don't have scopes with over 10X at the moment.

We don't usually see the Super Sniper as sold by SWFA in the UK. We do currently have a version of it sold as the Edgar Brother (EB) Sniper. Previous incarnations, with minor variations, of the scope have been the Tasco Super Sniper and the Nikko Sniper. Quality has varied over time but generally speaking they are a scope that I like quite a lot, particularly for the money.

when you say benchrest shooting are you speaking of target shooting only on a bench ?
if so, that is what i plan on doing only with this step up

actually this comment is to most that commented on the 10x or the 20x, i had a 50 cal that i never shot but sold it right away because it just wasnt practical to me, 4-5 bucks a shot never made sense even though shooting one puts a HUGE smile on my face, anyways the guy that recomended the scope i bought is a 50cal contest shooter and he swore on the 20x, we will see, but honestly ive gotten alot of feed back that the 10x 42 is the one to get, hopefully i can adapt to the i bought ? i usually do

It is about MOA with cheap South African surplus and slightly better with Norwegian higher velocity Nato. With Norma target it is about 3/4 MOA.
With handloads it might get down to 1/2 MOA, but down have time or a press at the moment.
Riot: Benchrest as shooting targets from a gun resting on a bench;) Many shooters have 30-40X in longer range benchrest so 20X is no problem at all:D
I do have a Zeiss that goes up to 14X after a closer look:o

I'm not as much into specialized shooting like many of you guys are but I do like my deer hunting. But when it comes to scopes to hunt with you just can't beat a "Leupold" in my personal opinion.
Over the years I've had 3 of them and they all did a fantastic job.
Oh and by the way I love their binoculars too.

There isn't much like the old AK in this one;) It is based on the RPK design though:D
I'd prefer a HK 417, but they said I had to return to army to get one:p Getting to old to go back so reenlisting is a no no..
