View Full Version : removing the wireedge on cpm 440v
i still have difficulties removing the wireedge on my military in cpm 440v.
tips on this issue are very welcome iheard about "strapping"but it takes ages and i heard use a diamondstick but can this be to coarse?
How are you sharpening and with what?
I had an edge try to wiredge on me. My solution was to VERY CAREFULLY AND GENTLY run the edge at 90 degrees to a small radius corner of the fine grit stone. This will rip off the wire edge while (hopefully) not dulling the real edge too much. Then, I resharpened the edge, being careful to keep a proper bevel.
If you are using a 204, sharpen on the 40 degreee angle like you normally would. (1 stroke on left side, 1 stroke on right.) If this does not solve your problem, go 3:1 strokes hitting the "burred" edge 3 times and the backside one. If you aren't using the 204, try to follow these instructions as closely as possible. Hope this helps ya out. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Another way to strip off a wire edge is this: Take a piece of cardstock (heavy paper, not corrugated cardboard) and strop the edge on that a few times. The cardstock is coarse enough to pull off the wire without damaging the edge.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.
thanks guys i will try all of your advice and maybe one day....
