so before it comes can anyone give me any tips on using it, proper useful tips that won't be on the video. never done any proper sharpening before, any tips would be very useful. thanks alot. btw i won't be able to reply till monday the 18th (going on holiday to venice). this sharpener better be idiot proof. oh and will it be able to sharpen my PE civilian to a razor edge that you can shave with? i'm a bit dubious about sharpening it cos it costs so much and that tip looks sooooo fragile...

If you don't feel comfortable sharpening a knife, don't. Send it to Spyderco for sharpening. Practice on a smaller knife first. The sharpmaker is easy to use with some practice, but it's difficult to maintain a needle point.

Why would you need to sharpen a Civvie? I can't think of any use that would dull it that wouldn't void the warranty (It's not meant for utility use). Did you aim between someone's ribs and hit bone?

I would not want to shave with a PE Civilian either. Your face might wind up looking like a Picasso!

Ruxton... you'll like the 204 as much if not better than your Spydies. The video and documentation are excellent... yes, idiot proof. I agree that I'd start with a smaller knife and work your way up to the bigger or more intricate blades. Good luck and enjoy.

Gary

PS: Although the 204 is idiot proof, it is not ultra idiot proof... make sure you put it on a table or bench... not your lap... ouch!!

The 204 requires a gold-plated idiot to malfunction. Read the directions, watch the video and practice on a cheap knife for a while. You'll get good results in no time!

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Good move, Ruxton!

You will not regret this buy!

I have had mine for for a little over a month, and already I have sharpened everything that has a edge on it in the house....

Have fun!

thanks for the replys guys, i'm actually sitting in an internet cafe in venice anyone know of any spyderco stockists in venice or rome? so far i've found a calypso jr (overpriced) and a centofane (again overpriced) with a damaged clip, damaged safety lock, no box and no tip(!) he wanted £80 for it too, so a bit dissapointing so far, i'll keep lookin tho...
