I was just wondering if anyone here has any experineces with the Böker Kalashnikov-series...

I am eyeing this knife (AKS 74 sheepfoot (http://www.boker.de/index.php?c=3000&a=01AKS74F&s1=kalashnikov&s2=0&s3=9999&p=&pp=0)) for a while now, but was wondering if there are members here who have any experience with it, or what they think of it.

Best regards,

JaM

I have one of the autos, same handle as the link you posted differant blade, its a decent knife for the money, granted I think I paid $17.99u.s. Its nothing fancy and the blade lock up on the few I have handled is just ok. There is movement in the blade side to side(alot!) as well as up and down when open. Opening action is very strong, as strong as any auto I have handled, and mines been opened hundreds of times and the spring is still working fine. The price in that link you posted is around 80 dollars u.s? For that money I would probably look to a higher end knife myself. There are lots of online videos of them and some reviews, being it is a cheaper auto it looks like they have sold a ton. A lot of the reviews say you can tighten up the pivot screw and get rid of the blade play, thats not the case on mine. You can tighten it as tight as you want, to the point the knife won't close and there is still lots of play. Hope this helps.

Well, I've handled one in the local knife shop (different type though), and was impressed by the quality. Not the bladeplay you describe here...

I find it quite strange though that a German Knife manufacterer can sell them for that amount in the US. 60 € is a decent price, I'd like to believe that NGK (for instance) would sell these for 50 US$, not much less...

No offence ment, but I cant imagine Böker selling "crap" like you describe. :) Even their lower end "boker plus" knives are decent blades in my experience.

Thanks for the info though, IF order one I'll make sure it has not the bladeplay you describe...

Cheers,

JaM

I am not offended in anyway, there are varying qualities in many knife companies. That knife is made in Taiwan, Boker makes many good knives and they also make some low quality knives IMO.

I never said it was "crap", I have handled maybe 5 of that particular boker in my life, every one had blade play that was unacceptable IMO. Perhaps I have just been unlucky and found the 5 poor "quality" knives Boker ever produced! My exact words were, "its a decent knife for the money", money being the 20 or less dollars I spent on it.

"I find it quite strange though that a German Knife manufacterer can sell them for that amount in the US. 60 € is a decent price, I'd like to believe that NGK (for instance) would sell these for 50 US$, not much less..." Maybe Taiwan is on the outskirts of Solinger.....:D

Do a little search for Boker magnum, some of those knives can be had in the U.S. for less than 10 dollars. They are cheap because the are made by the boatload and shipped in the same manner. They might be the best blade you ever own, I cannot say, everyone has differant opinions!

I agree with GoMeR :good for the price(mine was $27) you can get 20 units for the cost of a lower end Microtech. In descending order of quality and cost: Boker,Solengen--Boker,Arbolito (Argentina)--Boker,Magnum (Taiwan) at least that's been my experience so far.

I know the boker magnum-series are 'lower end'.

I'll look into this, and see if I can find out where this kife is made. if you are right, 60 € is too much. I should go for (another) SOG flash-2 then...

Thanks for the info guys,
