Multi IDE drive NAS?
Anyone know of a good multi-IDE drive network storage? I've currently got 8 or 10 IDEs kicking around (8 in 2 towers right now, not sure what's in my parts bins), and I'd rather run my storage from a couple of 4-5 drive boxes with a lower power requirement than running a full tower simply for storage.

I can get single drive boxes (have 3 going right now), and I can get multi-SATA drive boxes up to 8 drives. But I'm hoping to find a way to do it without having to get a multi-sata nas and use IDE-SATA adapters and recable it all.

We just started using USB Anywhere at work for some large USB drives for a special purpose. We bought a switch that has 5 USB ports on it and has a RJ-45 connector for the network. We give the device an IP address, and web manage it and we can plug in 5 USB drives. These can be thumb drives, or IDE or SATA drives within an external case with a USB connector. It's a neat way to have something about the size of an 8 port small switch store data. The USB Anywhere device was $250 but I think it is well worth it.

I don't want to have 8 independent power supplies and more cabling. I'd end up with a few more NSLU2's if I was going with usb-ethernet connections.

Best thing to do is to get a RAID card and use the drives on a spare machine.

Either the 8/12 channel card.

What's the quality like on those cards though? I haven't been hearing good things on what I can find locally.

I don't have one since I only have about two drives, but by from a reputable manufacturer with history, as they tend to provide troubleshooting and are more reliable.
