I'm the proud owner of a Serated Police Knife. I showed it to some of my friends and they suggested that it was illegal. I have searched some California Knife Laws and can't cut through the crap and red tape. Anyone out there who can help would greatly be appreciated!

Gotta Love the People's Republic of California!

It's only illegal if you get caught!
Call your local police department, they can tell ya quicker than anyone.

Carry it in a belt sheath and it is not considered concealed.well, at least not hidden..but if they don't like you, you go to jail for a 2"er

According to the site listed above, your knife is legal AS LONG AS you aren't in posession of it while on grounds belonging to the State of California (Public schools, polling places, federal and state buildings, where any locking blade knife or blade over 2.5" is prohibited). It is not a switchblade, as it falls under the exception to 653k. So, you can carry it anywhere else where it is not expressly prohibited.

I'm glad I live in the Republic of Texas, where any folding knife with less than 5.5" blade length is allowed. I didn't know Bowies were illegal in Texas, though. It seems a bit silly that our state, famous for Bowies, makes carrying them illegal (they count as a dagger). That makes any commercially available Spydie folder legal to own and carry.

California actually changed the section in the penal code which no longer restricts blade length for a conceled folding knife. But watch out, many cities and counties have city ordinances which DO restrict the blade length of a conceled folder. The city I live it is a 4" blade length for folders. Other cities, schools, court houses and "secure" places limit the blade length to a smaller length. If you a an ex-felon the blade length limit is 2" in the entire state. Also be aware that butterfly knives (Balisong), automatic knives, CONCELED fixed blade knives (hunting type) and double edged knives are illegal in California.
