This is kinda off the topic.........

Which do you like better, X-box or Gamecube? I like X-box better because of the 6 gig drive inside of it and a better graphics engine. It also has some cool games. The only thing is, X-box is $100 more. So which one will it be?

In the land of knives, Spyderco is king.

Well, I have to give props to both systems. The X-Box is a more capable system, but as far as justifying the extra cash......I dunno. I confronted the same questions around Xmas, and ended up getting the Gamecube instead of Mr. Gate's entertainment system. So, far the X-box hasn't shown me enough &quot;superiority&quot; to make me want to spend extra for it. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Also, a side note.....

Most &quot;Brand Spanking New&quot; companies have had paltforms problems in the past. Example - Everybody had to develop their own technique in order to get the original Nintendo to work everytime. And does anyone remember when the PS1 came out and some of the systems didn't recognize the software? Just a thought. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Bah!

I got a GameBoy Advance and I am perfectly happy with that <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

If I ever get one of the now next gen consoles it will be when they are no longer next gen and cost 150 each <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I really haven't had a craving for videogames. Leaves more time for study and more money for Spyderco <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

&quot;kinda&quot; off topic? haha

I don't know, as I've only tried one game for game cube, and haven't even seen an x-box... so I'll have to stick with the pong system. Best gaming system ever made... the radio shack one, with the 4 different pong games. I offered my friend 20$ for it, and he payed 50 cents. GRRRRRRR!

I'm a hard-core Nintendo fan (Why did they have to lose SquareSoft's business? When they decided to delay the N64 to work out bugs, therefore missing the Christmas deadline, Square said goodbye and went to Sony. GRRR!). Now that they've gone with disks instead of cartridges to get the most space possible for games, they have a really good system. Not only do they have a system that can compete, they also have a large, faithful following, both in the player's community and the developers. So, we will probably see a lot of great games for the GCN. Remember what happened to Sega: Playstation and Saturn came out at the same time, but the Playstation had the better games, so Sega lost out, eventually going bankrupt after their last-ditch effort, the Dreamcast. XBox may be a capable system, but it's going up against two well-established systems with lots of developers behind them. Gates may be the richest &quot;new money&quot; guy in the country, but if XBox becomes a money drain, he'll drop it faster than a pile of elephant dung.

One thing that XBox has going for it: The programming environment is C++, and it supports DirectX acceleration, so we may see a lot of PC game developers start writing for XBox. PS2, on the other hand, is very hard to program for. Those dual GPUs that made it such a hot item when it came out are only now starting to be fully utilized, due to the massive coding required to access the second graphics chip. Nintendo has supported both Z80 assembly and PC assembly, compiled from C++, since the Game Boy. But, the graphics systems for the N64 and GCN require the developers to know Nintendo's proprietary code libraries. Not nearly as hard to program for as the PS2, but still not DirectX.

Hope I didn't lose anyone there. Short answer, I'd go with the GCN, cause the company is tested and well-established in the console game industry, and its product has the largest following of dedicated developers. Nintendo, barring a quantum leap in technology that they can't catch up to, will be around for a long time.

GCN is out in America, but even now it'll still be hard to go to a store and pick one off a shelf. Nintendo delayed the release by a couple of weeks (till late November) to have an extra couple hundred THOUSAND units on hand, and they still were completely sold out the moment they hit the shelves.

My favorite N64 game? Gee, there are so many... Rogue Squadron was cool, as was Star Fox. I think my absolute favorite is Zelda: Ocarina of Time, though my little brother swears Majora's Mask is better.
