Just a queston concerning the lock on the endura. I bought my first one at a post exchange many years ago, and I still carry one(I'm on #4)and I've had the same problem with all of them. When doing heavy cutting the locking bar release sticks up high enough from the handle that pressure from my palm releases the lock completely. It is paticularly bad when there is any degree of pocket lint built up in the pivot area. I have been fixing this problem myself by removing metal from the lock release with my dremel tool, this solves the problem completely, and makes the knife a good deal safer to use for yard work etc...which is what I use it for now,the endura is affordable and easily replaced if broken or lost.I just wish my spydie would stay open without having to make any mods to it. Or am I the only one experiencing this problem??

Check out the new models. They have the cutout you mention. Of course, I hate the change because holding the knife properly presents no problem with the old design, but the new cutout prevents a silent one handed opening. To each his own.

Holding the knife in any fashion could release the lock. I didn't remove so much material from the locking bar so as to prevent a silent opening, just enough that no matter how you grip the knife or if it should twist in the hand, that it was more secure. I'm not spydie bashing, as I have not had this problem with my police model, only the endura.

Since I haven't seen you're modified knife, I can't argue about silent opening. The new model Delica I own is cut in such a manner as to at the very least make it very difficult to open it silently. I love my Spyderco knives as much as the next guy, it is my opinion that the new modification is all downside to me.

I guess it all depends on what you use your blades for. I don't really care if my endura opens silently or not, I only use that paticular knife for heavy cutting around the house, yard, garage,etc.. If the endura were to be used as a defensive tool and as you pointed out held in a proper grip the knife may not need any mods. I carry a completely different knife for defensive use that opens quietly and locks up reliably(as does my police model). But if you hold your endura point forward, edge up, and try to cut something using a lot of pressure the locking bar will release. Any way, I removed just the material nearer the center of the release and left a little more toward the ends. Then I used another bit in the dremel to add grooves across the bar for better purchase when attempting to control the snap. I simply use the ball of my thumb in the cut out area to keep it quiet if I must. You never know how your knife may twist in the hand, it happens, I've seen high quality linerlocks release as well. All I'm trying to do is add a margin of security to a good workhorse knife.
Hi Sniper.
We made the changes for the very reason you mentioned. The first time is was suggested to us was from David Boye.
