Well, if Poppa Spyder doesn't know about it, I'm out of the bidding.
I would love to have the pin, but ONLY if it is genuine!
How about it, Sal?
Didja issue these pins at one time?

Well heres all I know. I acquired one of these awhile back, then went on a tour of the Spyderco factory and was asked by several employees where I had gotten mine. And the gentleman selling this on ebay was/is a friend of Sals who used to work for Spyderco. Take it from there.

It would be painful to part with something so exquisitely beautiful! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Just wish I had the beans for it.

Hi Samo!
I kinda knew you'd quickly catch it! I sent an e-mail to eonBusiness, the company that takes care of our beloved <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Forum. I wanted to thank them for their superb job of hosting and maintaining this Forum and asked about the different "emoticons" and html formatting that is permitted. I was given the list of - <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>. Bolding and italics also works.
What he also shared was a "just for kicks" smiley that he recently added. To get the Spydie smiley, type in two of the squiggly brackets, back to back. I've tried to type them with quotes and brackets to show you what they look like but I'm html impaired. Here's a photo of them:
A <b>special thanks to Nico Brooks, </b> of eonBusiness for his prompt reply and continued support of the Spyder Forum. You guys ROCK! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Thanks for a terrific job on supporting and maintaining the Forum! Nico also happens to be a Spydie fan, too.

You guys are 'buggie"~ RLOL!!!
The Spyderco pin is a gold Spyderco bug given/issued only to employees of Spyderco after they've been with the company for a while. To my knowledge only one non-employee has ever been given one before.

Hey Lotsa-
No I didn't buy mine from the same guy. I have bought knives from this guy. Ok here is the story I got from the guy who is selling this on ebay. Sal used to work for him many, many years ago, then Sal started Spyderco. After it started taking off for Sal the gentleman came to work for Sal and worked as an outside salesperson and worked knife shows. He and Sal are supposed to be friends of many years. Don is selling off most except for a few pieces that personally mean something to him. That is what I have heard.

The Gold bugs that Spyderco makes are made in very small qualtities. They are 14K gold and are given to employees, that have been with us for a while, some select distributors and vendors.
Don and I go waaaaaay back. He has/had one of the original "Workers" that we began with in 1981. He also has a large numnber of aftermarket customs, including some he made himself. He did a nice job.
These gold bugs are very difficult to get in that Spyderco does not sell them for any reason. Getting one from an employee is probably the only way to get one. They cost us almost a hundred bucks each just to make them.
