View Full Version : New Spyderco ?
Hi,Im new to this board and from what ive seen im really impressed.
I started buying higher priced knives just this year so i started out with a Gerber Covert Folder and what a hunk of junk,So as always i thought that if i spent more i would get more,Well was i wrong i orderd a MicroTech Automatic Halo III Tanto from my local dealer and when it came in i had a weird feeling like i had just wasted my money but i learned to like it but theres one problem,I keep wanting to pick up My Wayne Goddard Spyderco that i got new old stock at a goodwill store for 10.00,For some reason i just cant stop playing with this thing and no matter how much i spend on other knives i still want to use this Spyder and cant stop.
I love the feel and the edge of this folder,Its a little hard to open but it is still wonderfull and by far my favorite folder,But im wanting another that will replace it one that im not so attached to so if for some reason i misplace it it can be replaced,I was looking at the Endura but im wondering if its a little big?
I lover spyderco but i hate carrying something thats not solid,I like a knive that dosnt wiggle or make any noise,One with a metal clip so it lasts longer and one thats just an all around great knife,O yea and i need the full spyder edge.
Sorry if this has been asked before but im just looking for a little help.

Welcome aboard. There are numerous Spydies that would fit your requirements. Try browsing around the catalog here or a few of the online retailers. If the Endura is a little too big try its smaller cousin the Delica---Pachucks

Welcome to the forum dude, the Delica is probably the best all around knife Spyderco has, next to the Native of course.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Tool,
Welcome to the Spydie forum!!
The Endura and Goddard are close to the same size. The Delica would be a good choice, or what has replaced my Delica, the Vesuvius(in-lay handle). It's size is between the Delica and the Endura. Plus it has the Compression Lock. You'll like it, and the in-lay keeps it sheeple friendly. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Thanks Guys,
My Goddard is 176mm long and it uses the G-2 Stainless blade (older model)
When the Endura is 216mm i think my Goddard is an older model so its shorter,I was looking more and more at the Merlin Or Harpy now and i just dont know if i should go for the Fiberglass handel or the SS handel? Wich is better,I notice the Harpy and Merlin are shorter knives but are they still comfortable to Carry as a Daily Defence knife,I had forgot to mention its for Defence and i want something that will stop someone.
Thanks

Hi Tool, welcome aboard.
You might want to look at G-10 as a handle material, it's more grippy than SS and 100 times better than FRN.
If you're looking at the Harpy, you definitely want to consider the G-10 model. Head on over to http://members.home.net/johnfjensen/body_spyderco.html as they have some.
Whilst you're over there you might want to have a look at the G-10 Natives, there probably a more all round defensive tool than the Harpy.
For pictures of both models have a look at http://www.bladeart.com/production/spyderco/spyderco.htm
They're a bit more expensive at Blade Art, but they provide excellent service.

Tool,
Welcome to the Forum!
My everyday carry is a Military with G-10 scales. I much prefer the G-10 handle material as it is light and strong, with a good grip to it.
The Military just feels good to me.
Lately I've been carrying the Lil Temperance when I travel to New Jersey. The three inch blade is legal there, but the design gives you a lot of blade. The compression lock is as strong as they come.
Knives are extremely personal, so I strongly recommend that you go to a good knife shop and actually hold onto the knife.
While I do purchase from mail order, I also try and patronize quality knife shops, so there will be a knife shop around for me to actually get my hands on the blade.
One way or the other, you pay for your tools!
Well i went to my Dealers,They had 2 Calypso .jr's for 35.99 each on Discount and they had acouple of Enduras for 47.99.
Are these good prices?
Is there anything I should know about the Calypso jr,It looks great but its a little small.
Thanks Again.

Yep, you should know that it comes pretty damn sharp and is easy to get scarey sharp.
One of the best small cheep folders out there.
And yep, the prices sound very good.

Hi Tool! Welcome to Spyderland! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
I personally like the Endura more than the Calypso, but that's personal preference. No matter which you get, also start stocking up money for a 204. It's the best sharpener I've ever used, and easily worth the price of admission.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.
Thanks,I orderd a SS Endura with a Full Spyder Edge,Just have to wait for it in the mail.
