Is it a good chain, or a low quality one?

I was asked this question and got worrying

But I don't think Spyderco would do that to it's customers..soo is it or is it not good?

I don't own one, permit me to preface with that. However, chain is pretty easy to eyeball. Regularity in the links, lying properly flat, no tendency to kink up.

The SpyderChain fits this, and is thusly a good piece of chain. Anyways, silver chain or steel is inexpenisve, so the buyer can purchase a chain to their own liking.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Krazie,

I own the necklace and the chain, although thin, has held up to me (which means it takes tough use ). It's sterling silver, which keeps the cost down and with good care, will outlast a human lifetime.

The good thing is, if you want to change it, the knife can hold a thicker chain easily.

Thanks Kahz

Is the chain itself waterproof? I'm not much of a chain expert

I am ordering mine for 54.99 from Knifecenter, well actually my Mom is for my b-day.

But they can be had off ebay for 44.99 plus S+H

MSRP is 75 I think

Krazie,

Sterling silver is waterproof, it can tarnish due to contact with certain elements, like oxygen or sulphur, but can easily be cleaned with any polishing cloth or liquid jewelry cleaner. If it tarnishes, it does not mean it's bad metal, it's just natural for it (certain other silvers with different alloys and different degrees of purity may be tarnish free). Sterling is 925 per 1000 pieces of pure silver (92.5% pure), the rest is mainly copper and tin to make it stronger, and it is a fine metal after all, although not as expensive as gold or platinum. Just don't leave it to tarnish too much, or else it can become hard to clean it. Tip: I have used Tabasco sauce to clean mine if nothing else is at hand.

I paid around 45-50 dollars for my necklace, I can't remember exactly, but I bought it from Knifesales at eBay last year, sometime around September, and I have been wearing it since then. I have had to clean the chain only twice, and that's only because I sometimes use sulphur soap that accelerates the tarnish.

I hope this helps!

The chain that came with my mini police was not sterling as stated in the catalog, and the plating came off. (I got mine when they first came out.) I have talked to the factory rep about it, but she's keeps getting the run around too. However, the caatalog no longer states sterling. I now have mine on a very nice 20" sterling beadchain and it looks great.

We weren't pleased with the original chain and made a change through the run. I believe they are now discontinued and might be difficult to find.
