I've noticed that spyderco is using wire clips on the meerkat and the salsa. What are everyone's opinions of these clips? I've never seen one up close, but I hope that spyderco will not make these clips standard issue on future knives. Personally I'm fond of the traditional clips.

The only wire clip I have had is on the Q.It works on it because of the style of knife. For reg. knives I like the standard clip. The three screw better than the barrel bolt.

The wire clip is better for smaller knives. The wire will hold the knife securely, lightens the weight somewhat, and won't snag on clothing as easily as the standard strip clips. However, they aren't quite as strong, so I'd prefer a strip clip for any SS-handled knife, or any knife with a blade over 3 inches. As far as feel, the strip clips are slightly better IMO, but the edges of the clip where it's punched out could use a little rounding on top. The wire clips feel a little flimsy in your hand, but not by much, and on a small knife, it doesn't make much difference.

I like them they do not scratch stuff up if you bump into something and they blend in a little more also.

A knife is the most expensive and least effective screwdriver you will ever buy. However, we do have the blade strecher if we can get the solar power thingie to work

I have a wire clip on my Meerkat. The weight, look and hold are fine. Well, change that... the hold is too good. That darn wire hook catches on pants pockets like none I've ever owned. IMHO it needs to be tweeked before it can compete with the original clips.

Spydercoholic, what does this mean?

"A knife is the most expensive and least effective screwdriver you will ever buy. However, we do have the blade strecher if we can get the solar power thingie to work."

Please excuse my stupidess.

In the land of knives, Spyderco is KING!

Also the wireclips don't obviously look like they're attached to a knife, which can be a good thing.

I don't have a problem with them as long as they're fastened to the handle. I had a Q model which was my first Spyderco, it had a wire clip that was held in place by it's own preasure from being clipped on. I lost the original one and almost the second one, then I got rid of it, for pretty much what I paid for it. If the clip had been more secure like on the new Meercat & Salsa, I know that I would still have it. RKBA!

Love the wire clip. It is VERY secure and low profile. Meerkat is my EDC.
