View Full Version : Salsa Likes-Dislikes?

I received my Ti handled Salsa yesterday and will carry to evaluate for a week or so.
Likes= looks, integral Compression lock, the way it fits my hand, leaf blade plain, blade size just right for a daily carry.
Dislikes = wire clip, first inpression-looks cheap, Cobra hood, don't need to open the knife one-handed, therefore an unecessary expense.
I am used to the Spyderco look and maybe thats why the cobra hood and wire clip are
dislikes.

Check out how the clip blends into your pants. Also note how it doesn't gouge you (or anything else) like the standard clips. Definitely less elegant, but the tradeoff may be worth it for EDC "working" knives.
I was dubious at first too. It helps to live with it for awhile. I hope my Ti Salsa gets here soon.
I've heard that the knife has some very fine tolerances where it really shouldn't, such as the distance between the edge of the blade and the barrel screw holding the clip. Sometimes, especially with wear, the blade can bang into that barrel screw. Can't be good for the blade.

I had the now famous flat spot in the blade of my salsa, but nothing a 204 can solve. In my experience, the wire clip doesn`t snag and does not scrap your hand. The cobra hood surprised me at first and I disliked it, but then I carried my salsa in the pocket of my parka and I discovered that I could open the knife with my gloves on, something that I can´t do with all my

Where did you guys get your Ti Salsa's? And has the barrel screww issue been fixed?

Ti Salsas have shipped to the collectors club and are now shipping to dealers. The first run Salsas have been resharpened before shipping, so they have no flat spots. The second (next) run in both versions will have a smaller barrel bolt.

Carlos,
Do you happen to know when the 2nd shipment of Salsa's will be in? I would be interested in getting one with the smaller barrel bolt.
Thanks bro!

I have used the Salsa for EDC the past 3 weeks and really like it. I have an early tan alum.model with the SE. My SS PE Dragonfly is my other EDC but I find myself reaching in the pocket holding the Salsa when I need to "separate matter."
I noticed the flat spot but my 204 fixed it in a minute. Regarding the clip, I like the lightness and breezy design. IMHO, this is a knife for the 21st century. will realize the demand that will be created by today's conditions for this neat little friendly knife.

Here are my two Salsas. The Ti Salsa is awesome!

Do you think it's worth shelling out the extra cash for the Ti version? I'm not exactly sure on the differences between the two. How superior is ATS-34 to AUS-8? Also, are the lock mechanisms the same on both versions? I want to purchase the Salsa, and like the look of the Ti, just not sure if I want to spend the extra money for it or buy a blue aluminum one.
I know one answer is to just buy both But I don't have the funds for that right now.
So, a little grinding with the 204 will take the edge out of the danger zone of the barrel screw? That makes me much happier with my Salsa buy. When it gets here, I'll just know to sharpen it after a few days use.

Hi Pedwalk,
Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

Personally, "Yes!" The aluminum Salsa is a excellent knife, but the titanium Salsa is the most impressive clipit I've seen since the Carbon Fiber Civilian. The difference is greater than the sum of different features -- you have to have them side-by-side to experience the gesalt of the Ti Salsa.
ATS-34 is not a "better" steel than AUS-8: it is a tradeoff. AUS-8 will take a finer edge, while ATS-34 will hold an edge for much longer.
Perhaps one now to start, and another later on if you like the Salsa platform?

Thanks for the info. I was interested in the salsa when I first saw it, and think I have my heart set on the Ti. I was just looking for some opinions from people that had both (I also found your review at bladeforums.com which was helpful).
These forums and the ones over at bladeforums have been very informative/entertaining, nice to see that there's such a robust community. From what I've read I think I've got to go with the Ti, looking foward to trying it out!
