Hey guys. I know there are at least a handlful of people on this forum that are in law enforcement.
I applied for a police officer position, and have made it through the testing phase and into the top 12 out of approximately 300 that applied. I now have an in-home visit/interview with an officer this weekend. I guess it's kind of like a pre interview.
I have absolutely no idea what you're supposed to wear for something like this. I know it sounds stupid, but I just don't want to hurt my chances in any way. The panel interview I would obviously wear a suit and tie, but this one I'm clueless about.
Anybody know? Anybody go through one of these recently?
Anybody know what these interviews entail?
Thanks

Hey spyderdog, First let me say CONGRATS for making it as far as you have in this testing process ;). Now as far as what to wear ... I'd say just dress casual.
I didn't have to go throug this step of an interview process, but know some that have. Nothing to be worried about. They're just confirming you are who you say you are, live where you say you live, etc... Probably looking at the home environment you're in and area. Just answer the questions the best you can and be honest. Be professional and have a positive attitude. When you talk, make sure you make good eye contact. Hope this helps some :o. Take Good Care, Be Safe Always, and I Wish You Good Luck.
God Bless :)

Good luck man. You'll do fine.
Where in Ohio you gonna be a cop?
I'm in the Cuyahoga Falls/Akron/Cleveland area.

like raven said, just checking the preliminary info, they might also ask to see your tattoos if you have any to check for gang activity. it is more of a background check, at least it was for me for when i got on the police and the fire depts. good luck with the whole process.

David, I went to HS in Cuyahoga Falls at a private school called Walsh Jesuit. It was not co-ed back then, like it apparently is now. We rode the bus out from Brecxksville. Joe

Thanks guys, and thanks for the congrats Raven. I'm pretty excited to make it this far, but also understand it's a very tight competition right now. They might hire 2 or might hire up to 5 guys form the 12.
I figured it was mostly a background type situation. The officer told me he needed my girfriend present since she lived with me, and said he'd be talking to some of my neighbors as well. He also said he'd give me a little more info in terms of the next steps. Didn't really tell me much else. It's been interesting how much information they're trying to get from all my employers and references. Quite a process.

I currently supervise several federal agents and a multi-jurisdictional task force (well over 20 local and state officers) in the Buckeye State. I have served on hiring panels/interview panels before. Email or PM me with questions and I'll walk you through "the usual process."
Good luck,
Jon
