View Full Version : What to do with orphaned knife boxes?

As I have mentioned (maybe too much), a large part of my folding knife collection was stolen recently. The knives were in a carrying case so I now have a bunch of orphaned boxes because they were stored separately. I am not sure what to do with them now that the knives for them are gone.

Not sure if there is a demand or any value to these knife boxes. I know that collectors like to have the correct box for a knife, but I would assume they would already have the box. I have plenty of random uses I could use the boxes for; but if someone could use it to replace a missing box, I would prefer that. Personally, they have more value as a correct box to a knife for someone than just a random box for me.

I am sure that I want to get them to someone who would get better use out of them than just a box, but I am unsure how to go about it. Can I trade them for something? Do people sell knife boxes? Should I just give them away?

Thanks for the input and any guidance.

Sad to hear of theft of a collection. A real shame. :(

Sell them, I've bid on some on eBay before. Might try to list them on Knife-BST.com or some other classifieds forums as well. Super cheap to ship since they break down nice and flat. I'd buy some from you but I've got to see what's for sale at Blade tomorrow before I go spending that precious discretionary income.

I'm PM you later on to see if you still have some to sell.

If you've filed an insurance claim, I'd suggest that you first make sure disposing of the boxes will not cause problems with it. Beyond that, given your sig line and this post, if someone needs one of them I'm betting they can connect the dots. I'd say anyone who wants one should at least offer to pay for postage. Whether you take them up on that, or want to ask a small sum for the boxes, is up to you. And yes, people do sell them, I've seen auction listings for Spyderco boxes on eBay more than once.

Unfortunately I did not have any renters insurance, which was a huge mistake on my part. I guess I'll have to file that away as learning a lesson the hard way.

Sorry for your lost :(

But the problem with boxes is that they carry the year and month of built (the two letters next to the model name). That means you have a knife made at a time and a box made at another time....

I would say give them, but ask that they are not resold as what the box says...

Take care,

Simon

Sorry about all this.

It seems you can sell anything on e-Bay, so give that a try, Can't hurt.

If not, I may just toss them so they Don't keep the memory of an unpleasant event alive. But, that's just me.

Again, sorry. Hope all is well otherwise.
