Mike I think the idea was we can't always be on top of our game if we are always making the same old stuff. "out with the old and in with the new"
A } { knife is the most expensive and least effective screwdriver you will ever buy. However, we do have the blade strecher if we can get the solar power thingie to work ;)
Hi Mike. Welcome.
The Worker was our first model. It was introduced in 1981 and was the World's first knife to have an opening hole and a clip.
After a 20 year run, it was time to let the old girl retire and make some room for new models.

Welcome to the forum dude! The Worker was a great knife, but like the fearless leader said, the retirement of some knives is a necessary evil to make way for new and better knives. But if you observe a moment of silence for it's passing, we'll understand.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

This may be off-topic but it is related to the Worker. I have a plain-edged Worker and don't know what production year(s) it was part of.
Question: Out of the box, is the swedge supposed to be factory sharpened to a false edge? I've read where you're supposed to be able to open the blade only partially and be able to cut string. I find it difficult to do with the unsharpened swedge.

Hey, Rebel, I live in South Carolina too. That was kind of off topic, but oh well. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
I thought Spyderco brought the worker back for a while.

toothed the worker i have has a very pronounced swedge.i suppose it would cut string....and im sure u could sharpen it enough to be effective..but from what ive learned i dont think id try it cuz of the collectors value. if its 1 of the originals..chinook posted some great pics of this knife in an earlier post called 1st run clipit worker about a week ago.:-) ron
