View Full Version : Faking it...

I won't be getting my Tri-Angle Sharpener 'till Christmas, but work is taking its toll on my Harpy.

I considered sending it in for the complementary sharpening, but as badly as I treated it when I first got it I figure I probably voided any warranty. (That and it's my only Spyderco and I'd feel awkward being apart from it for so long.)

My grandpa threw me a handful of pocket stones, one coarse, one fine, and one triangular shaped one that's somewhere in between. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him how to use the things...

With a plain knife, I can put a good edge on, but could use a few tips on how to go about sharpening a serrated.

For one thing, I can't figure out if I need to work on the flat side at all other than to work out any burrs I'd make grinding on the angled side.

Anyone know a few tips for the beginner?

Gentlben~
The point of the triangle is the only part of the stone you should be using on a serrated edge. Sharpen both sides of the knife to avoid the burrs. Position either the stone or your knife at a 20 degree angle to get the correct bevel on the knife.
Hope this helps.
