i bought this off of ebay, a 9.5" japanese gyuto damascus blade. IIRC it is hardened to 58 and it has around 70 layers. i know the corian will be slippery but i dont think anymore so than my masamoto and i like that one. i am leaning toward the dark blue. i just think it would look cool. if someone had a corian countertop this would be cool as hell to match your knives to it IMO. i threw the cocobolo in just because it was in the drawer full of knife stuff:D. i dont know how well it will stay together with it being crosscut to the handle.

Dark blue would be my choice, good luck with whichever you choose.

I'd avoid the wood in the kitchen unless stabilized. I think the slate would be too "matchy matchy" and same to a lesser degree for the light blue--leaving another vote for dark blue.

1st from left, or 2nd from right I say :D Nice work

+1 on the dark blue Corian. Of the material you have there, it would be my first choice. And while new counter tops might be a bit too $$$$, perhaps you could get the matching cutting board from the place that sells the Corian samples. :D

i vote for the amboyna. i think damascus deserves to be paired with natural handle materials.

If we number from left to right, I say 3 or 4, but your countertop also looks like it would be nice. :) (We could use an evil smiley!)

Tony,
I like the Amboyna burl best, but in this case I think better you go for the cobalt corian :) mill in some slight indentations or grooves to aid in traction.

I like the Amboyna best, but my second choice would be the gray corian. The dark blue corian is quite OK too, but the middle one honestly looks like bathroom colors to me.. I think it would be a bit weird on a kitchen knife scale.

Dark blue - contrasts the damascus best to my eye.

the holes are 3/16 and i was thinking of mosaic pins..those look good for the mule project if you want to change the scales for the newest knife.

Another vote for the dark blue corian. I think it would really set off the damascus.

well i went with something completely different...lol. i won some scales on the bay to use in a kopa but when i saw them in person i knew i had to use them for this knife. the wood is masur birch dyed and stabilized. i have a few flaws in it but this is my first attempt at pinning scales on.

What did you use to hold the scales on ? Rivets or pins? They look larger in diameter than 3/16" ?

i just cut some paper with it. it isnt the hardest knife at 57rc so i think it will need some touch ups a lil bit more frequently but i think it will be a nice user in the kitchen. this one is being gifted to Dan from down under and i am sure he will use it.

Whoa, look at that thing! Very nice looking knife you have there Tony, congratulations. It would have been difficult to pick a material for the handles for me either, they are all so good looking... :)
