So, I was sitting futzing with a couple knives the other day, and my daughter calls over to me to look at what she had written on her dryboard:

that's cool, how old is she? i had something similiar happen to me on tuesday when my daughter was in her ballet class. me and the lil guy (almost 4years old) were laying on the couch with a blanket over us to surprise his sister and mom when they come home. he was asking me 20 questions about anything and everything and then he asks me about tools and his tool bag and says "when i get bigger can i be a knifemaker like you" i was a proud poppa:D.

Kids are amazing. Sometimes they're a hell of a lot smarter, or have far more common sense, than adults. Thanks for sharing that!

Well, after I laughed and gave her a hug, I did tell her that mommy is my best friend, and she and her brothers are my treasures. She is 7. Here's my brood:

She'll be getting a translucent pink Vic Classic on her 8th birthday this summer. She's very excited about that.
My daughter is 13 and loves anything Im into, so she is into Spyderco now as well.
Kids are the measure of your life.

I know what you mean. The two older ones want to go shooting with me this summer, too. They ask a million questions about shooting and arms when they're in the Manhole with me. The elder boy is already pretty good with a BB rifle in the garage, and Emma, when I can get her away from distractions like her brothers, can really focus and listen.
I'll take them out, one at a time, when they can recite the four firearm safety rules to me and tell me what they mean. I have everything ready to go:

We'll pop some balloons and some stationary clay pigeons and stuff. :)

That's cool. Cute kids. :)
Where did you get your suppressor from? I'd love to get one but that $200 tax stamp is a big jump to take.

I live in PA, so I have a dealer I work with here. That one is a Thompson Machine Zephyr - stainless tube, aluminum monocore, able to take apart to clean out.
If you're looking for a deal, TM is it right now. They are very aggressively priced, their quality is great, and they are very friendly to talk to. The $200 is not to be sneezed at, but consider it a once-in-a-lifetime cost per item. It's just a couple knives' worth of money. ;)

some friends and family kinda scoffed at me when i took my then 8 yr. old son to the gun range. he had learned all the necessary safety rules and had shot his bb gun under my supervision. took him to the range and let him shoot my ruger 22 pistol. hell-o, he had better trigger control than i did. he was flippin cans all over the place and he loved it! i ended up buying him his own rifle, a small 22 called a grashopper. he later inherited his papaws winchester 22 rifle which he cherishes.
i wanted him to see the destuctive power of firearms firsthand, so he would respect the resposibility of using and owning a gun of any kind. when he saw me destroy some mellons with my 40 cal, he understood the consequences of mishandleing a firearm. he said i was making fruit salad!

That was exactly a demonstration that I was planning on! They know about hunting and what a bullet can do to a living creature, but an exploding item roughly the size of their head should hopefully give them pause about being extra careful. "This is why we follow the rules."

cute kids, i feel for you though, the other two are grown up enough to pretty much take care of themselves and now you have another lil one and you have to deal with all the diapers/no sleep/etc all over again but i am sure he is worth it.:)

He looks just like you, except for the glasses... and the hat... and the beard... and the Spyderco.
Thank goodness! :)

Another impressive demonstration for the little ones somewhere down the road is what a shotgun can do. :)
A friend of mine takes his teenagers (one boy and two girls) out to the shooting range once in a while. One of his girls (I believe she's the second youngest) loves shooting his Smith & Wesson Model 460, and, yes, with the .460 caliber rounds! When they go shooting, she's always bugging him on when he's bringing out the 460. :) They definitely get people's attention on the range.
My friend told me his daughter is the only one who doesn't flinch when she's lighting up the 460. Both he and his son (the oldest) tend to flinch with anticipation of the blast and recoil when they shoot that gun, but she just squeezes off the rounds one right after the other with ease.

My daughter is also a Spyderco, Surefire, and Glock lover.
Her boyfriends better be nice to her!
The red spyder looks cool, you should zoom on it, and make a crop of just the spyder.
Thanks for showing us.

SPYCOS. Look that up on the CENTCOM Web Site DoD acronym listing.
