need a new camera bag

looking for suggestions.

my current small nikon bag will not cut it. looking for something to fit all my lenses in with body and probably my giottos rocket blaster. all else falls i can always hand-carry the body with a lens mounted to save space. but that would more than likely be the 105 macro which is a heavy SOB.

i can cut out one lens but would like to have it with me in case i came across something that i needed it for.

needs to fit:
-d60 body
-air blaster
-18-55mm
-35mm
-55-200mm
-105mm Macro.

55-200 would get cut if needed

ive got my nikon in a lowepro and have been very happy with it. i also keep my canon video camera in one. there stuff seems to be pretty well made and they come in a ton of different sizes.

you could always go with a pelican case. it would be alot heavier though.

I 2nd Kata. The company is owned by two Israeli Spec-ops guys who originally made photo equipment for reconnaissance. I really really want a Kata bag even though I use my DSLR once a month.

I like their shoulder bags a lot. They are well built, nicely padded, and with removeable padded sections inside that you can rearrange to meet your needs. Also, I like how the top has an extended flap along the edge to cover the zipper and keep the rain out.

Two of my favorites that I use are the Tamrac System 6 and Tamrac Pro 12 shoulder bags.

- I go with the System 6 if I'm carrying one camera body with lens attached plus additional lenses, flash, etc.

- I go with the Pro 12 if I'm carrying two camera bodies with lenses attached plus additional lenses, flash, etc.

Camera Bags are a personal thing, like the Canon/Nikon or Spyderco/Benchmade type arguments, you will likely end up with a few different bags (I have 7 total and am looking at my 8th)
A bag i love might not suit you, and your favorite bag may not fit all my camera gear (my camera gear lives in a Suitcase sized bag, and my wife has a similar amount of gear)

my wife just bought a Think Tank Photo "Airport Security"
their stuff appears very well built, and just seems to blend in with normal travel bags, i am planning on getting more of their bags soon.
The company was founded by a group of photojournalists, and from what i have been hearing they stand behind their products %100
one of the Urban Disguise or shapeshifter models will probably work well for what you want

Crumpler stuff is good too, i own 2 of their bags, the one carrying my laptop has been carried every day for a little over a year, and if it were washed it would look brand new again.
A 7 or 8 Million dollar home would probably fit all your gear

Lowepro bags are pretty good, I own 2 of their bags, and work issued me another one, their Slingshot 200 will probably fit all the gear you want to carry, and make it easy to access when its on your back.


I dont have any real experience with Kata, Tamrac or any of the other brands, so i wont comment on them

yea just lookin for some ideas, that i can look at in store. i'd rather be able to check it out in a store than just look at online. best buy only carrys the nikon/canon bags and lowerpro.

guess i need to find an actual photography store that will carry a greater variety

I haven't been let down by any of the Lowepro's for any of my compacts or SLRs as yet. Lowepro are fairly well made, wide range for different needs and reasonably priced for the quality.

I second their Slingshot models. I have a Slingshot 100 which fits a D70/ D300s a spare lens and a flash unit. Other compartments house filters, batteries, compact camera, and even some space leftover for lunch and snacks :D Easy to carry around like a slingbag style and it flips around so you can access your gear without dropping the bag.

Going to an actual camera store that carries a wide variety of brands of photographic equipment and accessories is the best way to select a camera bag or anything else for your photography fun. You typically have people working in these stores who truly know something about taking pictures and can best suggest what you might consider.

The camera store I went to offered several brands of camera bags that I could handle, open up, check out the possibilities of configuring the inside, and visualize how my equipment would fit and be protected. If the store carries your brand of camera body, they may let you see if it'll fit in the bag. I spent quite some time going from one bag to another until I found what fit my needs.
