View Full Version : I need some help over here w/ my new knife.
I just recieved a new serrated Delica for a B-Day gift and it is my first Spyderco. I am curios as to what type of oil to use on the blade. I did not see anything on or in the box that said. If you can help, please do. Thanks a million!

Welcome aboard dude! Check out White Lightning or Tuff Glide. These are highly recommended knife and multitool lubes..

I believe that when you buy a knew knife, it is slightly oiled on all the moving parts (right Sal?).
However, after some time I put on a regular fishing reel lubricant, like the Silicote Reel Oil. It doesn´t stain, it doesn´t smell, it doesn´t harm your knife and it works great.
When the action is no longer smooth I just put on some more
Doesn´t have to be more complicated than that.

Some guys use clove oil and vegetable oil to lube their knives. Its safe to cut food with it...

In general, I don't use any oil on my delica. After the action has smoothed up in a coupla months, there's no need. However, when I do oil my folders, I use mineral oil for any folder that might eventually touch food, and a combination of Tuff Glide (for the pivot) and Tuff cloth (for the blade) of any folder whose blade won't touch food.

Cut any non-edible surface ~ better go for non-toxic lubes!! If you are expecting heavy abuse on your folder ~ I swear by White Lightning! *hee-hee!*

Samo,
Clove Oil has been used for (centuries ??) on swords because it procects so well. I've used both the Tuff Glide and White Lightning (and Clove). I think both a great but White Lightning has acually slowed the action of some of my knives, not sure why. (others it moved the action into light speed)

Well, there's always this pain in maintaining the knife from dust and lint. Constant cleaning and lubing will not hinder the action of the folder..
