thought i'd practice on something other than my prized spyderco's.
after seeing bushbadgers fluted scales, i just had to give it a try.
i'm thinking about using the technique on my new persistence using green linen micarta.
these turned out pretty well, considering i just used 80 grit paper taped to a steel rod. i don't have the right sized barrel sanding attachment for my rotary tool.
let me know what you guys think.

first up is a buck strider, with the green scales.

and this is a gerber that i've forgotten the name of. not sure if it's micarta or ?

Excellent work. Not my cup of tea, but very well done. I'd guess the stuff on the Gerber is G-10, but whatever it is, the way you carved it made it at least ten times more visually interesting than Spyderco's textured G-10.

wow!
thanks deacon!
coming from you, that means a lot, since you are one of the go to guys on this forum.
i really liked the way the material is layered, and fluting it just made it more prominent.
thanks again!

Love how the Gerber looks...the layering works really well with the fluting. If it had a damascus blade it would be really interesting.

Very nice work, even more impressive considering it was done freehand; congratulations and thanks for sharing.

I was just reading something in a knife mag about laminate G10...could be something like that going on with that handle.
