Well, I have my BM R&R now. The blade steel is GIN-1, or G-2, whichever you prefer to call it.
As in an earlier post, Tightwad told me to sharpen my knife with a file. Is GIN1 that hard? I'd hate to have to use a file to sharpen the thing, maybe i'll just send it back to BM when i need it sharpened.
Is it possible to get a good edge on GIN1 with my 204 sharpener?

Ouch! i cant imagine taking a file to any BM or Spydeys. Ive had a native for 2 years now with the GIN-1 steel, its a middle of the road steel RC-58-59. mine sharpens great with any ceramic type deal. I dont have 1 yet but from all ive seen or heard the 204 would work great. The Gatco tri steps works for me, but its no where near the 204.good luck and hide those files :-) Ron

Gingami steel, noted as GIN-1 or G2, will sharpen easily on a 204.
Sharpening with a file is a way of creating a kind of quasi-serrated plain edge that some people like.

I owuldn't recommend sharpening any knife with a file except in cases of dire emergency. The file cuts steel fast enough that it is able to wear away the blade far faster than a stone is.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Ok, I was just wondering if my 204 would do it.
Thanks.
The 204 will do a very sweet job on that GIN-1 steel.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Gin-1 will sharpen up easily on the 204. It's not as difficult to sharpen as, say, ATS-34 or VG-10, both of which also sharpen up no problem on the sharpmaker..
