Dear Mike,
two days ago a friend of mine brought me from Munich the CRKT's new neck knife, the RYAN'S PLAN B, designed by Steve Ryan.
Although it is advertised as a smaller, compact workhorse, it looks to be useful as a defensive tool. Especially, since Steve Ryan was a student of Okinawan go gyo (Ryan's Model Seven was ispired by the Filipino barong, according to the CRKT).
QUESTION: I would appreciate very much to hear your opinion on the 'Ryan', and, eventualy, comparison to the Ronin.
I find personally the design of the Ryan very interesting and, in a way, exotic. Especialy the angle between blade and handle (similar to the Massad Ayoob's Spydie folder). And, the blade is a spearpoint (but tends to the warncliffe). However, I find that my Fallkniven WM-1 is better to me for the Filipino grip.
Anyhow, waiting for your/Spyderco Ronin to appear, I shall 'play' with the Ryan and/or WM-1.
Regards,
Franco
