So I recently saw the trailer for that movie "The Last House on the Left" in film class (the teacher was introducing this presentation project and providing examples of past entries), and in this one segment, this chick was being threatened with, upon closer inspection, what turned out to be a combo-edge Endura 1 (or 2; I'm not entirely sure. All that was really visible was the blade, and the film was released in '73, so I think it's a 1). Naturally, I kinda shouted out "Hey, a Spyderco!" and everyone just kinda stared at me. I felt awkward. And it inspired me to make this thread.

Just complete the statement in the title and/or share experiences that totally made you feel like a knife nerd.

If anyone's curious, here's the trailer. The Endura's at about 0:43 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqXnowJjfDc

(also first post. hi.)

I actually saw that movie recently and noticed the same thing. The girl ended up killing someone with a spyderco (or at least stabbing, I don't recall, it was a pretty disturbing movie to say the least and it did not get my full attention).

There is a new one and the bad guys have a Spyderco, I think it is some sort of Endura SE.

Okay, I watched the video and that IS the new one. It was released two or three years ago. It is actually a good portion of the reason I am here. I saw that movie and thought to myself, "If bad guys can have a high quality knife, why can't I?" I searched on google for Last House on the Left and knife and found out that it was a Spyderco. I actually asked the question and it seems that no one really knows what it was in that movie. There are only a couple quick flashes of it.

Now that I see it, the blade shape does not look like a Police or Endura, I would say that it looks like a Serrated Military. I know that when I watched the movie it seemed that a clicking sound was added by the sound guys. If it were actually a Military maybe the sound was not added.

I can't tell you how many times I've rewound and slow-mo'd Law & Order Criminal Intent to see what kind of knife Vincent D'Onofrio is using in various episodes. Usually an OTF automatic, sometimes a Microtech. It's not uncommon for other viewers in the room to say "It's a knife, who cares what kind?" ;)

You know you're a knife nerd when;

you scoff when someone pulls out their cheap swap-meet knife, and they tell you how cool it is.

Well I suffered through the movie "the expendables" just to see the knives. Does that count?

The "Last House on the Left" is one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. I felt bad they used a Spyderco in it, really wouldn't want my products portrayed in that manner.

Cold Steel must have payed major bucks for that glorious 3 second money-shot of the Espada at the beginning of the film.

But yeah the movie was pretty bad. lol

I lolled at the *shling* sound when the knife came out. I mean you can't go more Hollywood than that. :D That one looks like an Endura4 to me, the tip isn't as pointy as on previous generations and the bottom "guard" is more pronounced.

You know you're a knife nerd when you're watching a movie, notice a knife and in a split second you recognise and say the maker and model. Then the guy/gal sitting next to you asks: "What knife? I didn't see a knife."
Happened with my GF on several occasions, and she has 4 Spyderco's herself.

Yeah, totally.

To be honest, I actually do think it's a pretty cool design, but the AUS8 steel and the hyperpolished un-scratch-resistant bolsters irk me. I wouldn't mind getting one to just hang on my wall or something like that, but there's no way I'd carry it unless they started employing (at the very least) 154CM or another high-quality modern steel.

Back in high school, during the middle of english class a guy a few seats over was trimming his nails with one of those keychain SAK. the guy next to him says "That's not a knife, this is!" and he pulls out the next size up SAK. Yet another say's "That's not a knife, this is!" and pulls out a little larger knife. I then say "That's not a knife, this is!" and i pull out my no. 8 Opinel (didn't have any spidies back then).

You know you're a knife nerd/Spyderholic when you give some a Spyderco as a gift and they even like the knife, but you feel crestfallen because then they try to throw away the Spyderco box thinking it's just "packaging". :D

You know you're a knife nerd when anytime a knife you recognize appears in a film or television show, you turn around and tell your girlfriend what brand and model it is without hesitation.

Needless to say, I get many blank stares in my house.

The employees at my favourite gun shop don't put any new arrivals in the display cases until I've had a chance to look at them. They usually text me to see if there's anything I need when a new shipment comes in.

LOL doc, Okay, I'll play "nice". The stock keeping unit, or SKU, refers to the product # for a given product. For example the SKU for the standard G-10 Spyderco Military is C36G, C for ClipIt, 36 as in it was basically the 36th unique model in the ClipIt line, and G for G10. Every Spyderco Product has a SKU and sometimes folks might refer to a product by the SKU rather than the verbose plain english name. If you go to the spyderco main page, You can look up every product in the product line by either name or SKU.

Doc, better? :D

SKU # is the acronym for an arbitrary name assigned to a "stock number", probably by one of the early makers of computerized inventory management software. PLU # (Product Look Up) is a similar concept except usually implemented by the retailer, rather than the manufacturer. In both cases, there's a one to one relationship between a specific code number and a specific product, although some aspects of the product may change over time. A C11PBK has always been, and will always be a plain edged black FRN Delica. But, just by that number, you can't tell which generation.

Yep, it's a new endura (when did this current gen come out? 08, 09?), fully serrated. Had nothing better to do this weekend while watching my sister's dogs than to watch TV and try to find a decent movie on the freebies.

The tip shape and laser engraved bug on the blade are all I needed for ID. Now how many others caught that it was set up for tip up, left handed?

If it's the 1973 version on the film, then it wasn't a Spyderco. The first Spydie didn't hit the streets until 1981.

I just realized that the trailer was actually for the '09 remake, not the original '73 film. So yeah, it's actually an E4 like someone stated earlier in the thread.
