View Full Version : Another Query for Samo
Samo
A little off the ly trail but I was just curious how the preparations are going for your trip to Mongolia. Will this be related to your literary line of work or is it personal? Have you discovered how the knife laws work there and what will you carry?
Also I have traveled the Pacific Far East and have been known to spend a month or so scouring the sub-aquatic regions of Okinawa, Guam, and the Philippines in pursuit of tastey teleosts, elasmobranchs, bivalves and other critters. Just how does one contact the infamous jet-setter known as Samo if one wanderlust should suggest KL as a destination?

Hmmm... Tough nut to crack this one! Well, for starters, most of my adventures are work-related. Plenty of planning are necessary when it comes to logistics. I have plenty of friends in the oil and gas biz who had done a bit of frontier work. So, plenty of good intel when they sit down and talk about the logistics, geographical and political factors that'll influence part of the trip. Then, I square out a budget that covers equipment, transportation, accommodation and food for the entire duration of the expedition. Well, plenty of Malaysians have embarked on overland trips to Uzbekistan, Turkemnistan, Arzebaijan, Tibet, Mongolia and China with their four-wheel drive vehicles.. Malaysia sits right at the edge of Asia on the map, so this made it absolutely possible to travel by land.. Knife laws.. Ummm.. lets see, I've trampled throughout most parts of Asia including the South Pacific isles of Fiji, Tahiti and Easter Island without much hassles. The local authorities don't really bother with small folders. My Endura and Military have travelled extensively with me. Its been to Golden, Colorado too! I mean, a pilgrimage to Spyderland..
Well, speaking about Mongolia, the team is all ready to depart in June. And that'll be without me because I'm recovering from a broken leg.. Think I'll fare better in two years time.. Hey! If you are headed to KL, do drop in a line! I can be contacted at samo@nstp.com.my!

I figured out the icons on the Forum (Doh!!) and dashed off an e-note. I feel for you not being able to go this year but hey, let's get that wheel healed and shoot for the next one! Thanks for the information! Hope to take a diving vacation this year and the western Pacific/China Sea/Andaman Sea is always a number one possiblity.

Glad to be of some help! Speaking of diving, Southeast Asia is a good place to take a dip! The warm tropical waters off our coast are excellent choices for divers from all over the world!
