I picked up a Manix 2 over the Labor Day weekend but I am sending it home to Golden to be checked out. It seems to have too much side to side movement. I check the pivot screws and they seem fine. I have read about this on the forums and I am trying not to be too picky.
My Manix 2 was crazy sharp out of the box! I am still waiting for the hairs on my arm to grow back.

One comment I have is that the blade does not look sand blasted. I could be fooled by very diffuse lighting, though.

What? I think it is just the light, but now I am a little nervous. I just shipped it to Golden and they should have it by Tuesday. I picked it up at a local knife store in Foly, Alabama over the weekend. Normally I would have return the item but I live about 4 hours away in another state.

Does you blade have a stonewash finish?

I would say yes. No-gloss finish without luster, matte-like finish.
It may just be the light in my office. At any rate it is on its way to Golden.

This issue was pretty well documented in a couple of threads. On mine, I noted a lot of side to side play before it is fully opened, but when opened, not much play at all. So mine was good. Others had more play when opened and you cannot get rid of it by cranking the pivot since it is the new bushing pivot.

You could (if you wanted to tighten the play) gently/gradually reduce the thickness of the bushing. The sides of the bushing that dictate the distance the liners are apart from each other!

That is what I did with my blue Manix. I used a small file on the bushing to get rid of the open side to side movement.

Thanks Guys, I will let you know how Spyderco responds.
Have a look at my old Byrd. Still tight as tight can be. No wiggle. No play. No side to side. Unbeatable for the price range.

Which Byrd is that? How do you like it, and how has it held up?

It is a Meadowlark G10 Part Serrated, BY04GPS. My first "Spyderco" knife I ever purchased. You cannot get any better for the price. I carried it everyday for a couple of years. It still gets rotation and has held up wonderfully. If you have limited funds it is a good choice

My Manix 2 was returned today from Spyderco with a note that said it was "reconditioned to the best of our capability and that a little side to side while the blade is closed is normal."
I will say that the side to side play is less than before.
