I was wondering what the initial angles of the blade bevels that form the edge on Spydercos are? 15 deg on each side, 20? Somewhere inbetween? More than 20, less than 15? Consistent edges on all Spydercos, or differences between the models?

I´m asking because you got the nice Sharpmaker with defined sharpening angles, but need to guess what the angles on your knife are (yeah I know the magic marker method, but I hate painting my knives :-) )

I always wondered why none of the knife companies I know give precise info on the initial blade angles and their meaning (say on a leaflet in the box), it would help alot and take some of the guesstimate.

The initial bevels are done by hand and are about 30 degrees. That's why <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s are so sharp out of the box. It also means that you can use the 40 degree slots on the Sharpmaker without having to rebevel.

Clay,

Thank you for your concise response. I've wondered about this for awhile.

Jeff.
