View Full Version : Spyderco Forum Mission Statement

I propse that we create a mission statement of sorts in order to help control the forum and define its purpose and create some rules.
This forum was created to provide a place for spyderco owners and those interested in spyderco knives a place to discuss their knives. This is a place of great knowledge and maturity most of the time. When I think of this forum people like clay, chinook, samo, carlos, kahz, vampyrewolf in my opinion best represent the attitude of the forum and the spirit by which it was created and the purpose it was intended to serve. This is meant to be a poisitive place where we can exchange info and ask questions.
Thanks, Brian Johnson aka marauder2002

Good idea. It's just that what ANY good forum
doesn't need is more R&R ( Rules & Regulations )<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Just my two cents.

I belong to several forums, and by far this forum is the most consistantly on topic, good advice giving, and polite place I know.
TBH
I can only think of two posts that have caused any sort of upset, the "Hanable Saga" and more reciently the "Unknown Poster" (which personally I didn't mind).

Also the guy who claimed to have his bicep severed with a Matriarch.
Short joke:
Mike says, "When driving, I go on the red lights, just like my brother. He always goes on the red."
Ike says, "Why are you stopping on the green?"
Mike says, "My brother might be out driving!"
Conclusion:
1st forum rule: There are no forum rules.
2nd forum rule: See rule #1.

"Build a forum and they will come."
The moderator will determine the rules.
The participants will determime the content and quality of the discussions, etc.
I have enjoyed Sal's participation the most and wish he had a liittle more time to spend sharing his knowledge and time. <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
CalypsoKid's rule #1 works for me.

I think that this forum works quite well with the minimal moderation it currently has. A word to the wise is sufficient.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

IMHO, I find this works well how it is. We have the occasional post ging WAY off topic(see the unknown poster) but for the most part we stay on topic.
I haven't read the CASE knife thread, but I would assume that has nothing to do with spydies... unless for comparison sake.
As long as the additude around here is kept mature, I see no real reason to change much.

You CAN please some of the people some of the time, but you CANNOT please all of the people all of the time. Patience and tolerance of one another and our views is all we need to do. Keep it mature, well thought out and fun. There....my two cents worth. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I've been hanging out in this forum for almost two years and had came across some of the most interesting Spyderco users, collectors and connoisseurs from all over the world. These are the most helpful and decent people that made the forum grow.. And I must say that I'm glad to be a part of this family.. I feel at home already! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

It was my understanding, when I joined this forum, that that mission statement was enforced.
How else could we such a well hosted, informed, and mature group ...

I like it the way it is.Where elese can a country boy from TN talk with people from the other side of the planet. Also I have enjoyed makeing a couple of trades with forumites from other countries.Don't know about anyone else but it is amazing to me when I recieve one of these trades thinking about were it has been.Recently I got my OD Endura from AL,think about it that knfe traveled from Japan to Scotland to TN in less than 2 weeks. All in all this forum has cut my TV watching down by aleast 25% and increased my typeing(if you can call it that)skills and improved my spellen.

But it sure is different talking to these people on the phone...
Talked to Jeff Smith during our trade, and I'm sure he had as much fun understanding the Canadian 'accent' as I did the Tennesse/US accent(as you can tell, I'm not american... can't spell the state's name)...
This is one of the few places that different personalities, locations, and races can talk, without any of that getting in the way of an intelligent conversation.

In synopsis : what this forum REALLY needs is
less "laws" & better conduct. The "offenders"
that arise occasionally are put down by either the moderator, forumites, or BOTH.
This should be "proof positive" that more
"laws" ( or, R&R as mentioned above )are what
WE ( forumites ) don't "need". America is becoming more a nation of "laws" that affect
OUR liberties. We have but one "law" written
for us over 200 yrs ago by the framers of OUR
Constitution, which can be ammended. However,
the "states right's" of the 14th ammendment
allow the states brevity to write their own
"laws" ( along Constitutional guidelines ).
Thank God Almighty for that! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> If the 14th
ammendment were ever circumvented proper ( or
improper ) then the whims of the few would outweigh Our oligarchal rule of "law" ( or
Constitution ). Some of our overseas forumites will attest we have the best "system" in comparison to even their
countries. When we fall prey to the "laws"(or
whims ) of the few, we forfeit Our collective
"law". Look at Atty Gen. Ashcroft's "patriot
act" and the way it errodates the Constitution <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Let Us then live by the ground rules laid down by Sal & Co. and let
that be Our Constitution. NOT the whims of the few, but of the MANY <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'nough said.

I appreciate the original poster's intention of improving and solidifying this forum, but I must concur with the others that I like this forum pretty much the way it is, and that 'official rules' would needlessly make things more complex. We have had a very very little amount of "trolls" and the like.
