Seeing Diealex's excelent designs reciently got me thinking about what would be my ideal Spyderco ?

This was actually harder than I thought because it brought home to me the fact that I like different Spyderco's for different reasons.

So here's the challage.

Construct your ideal spyderco knife from existing (very slight modification only) Spyderco parts.

Here's my attempt.

Handle - Plain black G-10 in the shape of the G-10 Native with dual steel liners.

Yes, plain black, I'm with Henry Ford on this one . G-10, simply the best handle material out there. I've found the Native's handle shape to be one of the most comfortable out there, the choil is also excelent for choking up for fine cuts.

Blade - Slightly modified Calypso Jnr shape in VG-10.

I love flat ground, it's so versitle. Slightly modified so the tip is a bit narrower (pointed) for finer tip cutting, but not as narrow as the Delica. I was debating over the steel, I nearly went with CPm-440v or BG-42 for it's toothy cutting ability, but in the end I went with VG-10 because I've found it to have an excellent edge holding to ease of sharpening ratio.

Lock - Compression lock from the Ocelot / Tracker.

I nearly went with a lock back because it is truely ambidexterous, but in the end I went with a compression lock because it offers an open back for easier cleaning. Also it allows my final extravigance.

Optional extra. A marling spike folded into the back of the handle. Despite the temptation sometimes it is better to undo the knot rather than cut the rope.

Walk softly, carry a big stick.

Let's try the ultimate hard-use .

Grips- Black G10, dual SS liners. I'll take strength over looks and weight any day.

Lock- Chinook backlock, with an optional Securlok from the Centofante. This could never close accidentally on your hands, unless the lock broke, which is nearly impossible.

Blade- Two ideas. Either a recurved clip point in 440V (slightly modified Chinook), or a wedge blade with the serrations in front, in 440V (think an Endura blade with frontal serrations).

The ideal working/survival knife!

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I would go for a SS Endura with a plain edge,
flat grind in VG-10.

g-10 handle, Native style looks
dual SS liners
4"-4.5" handle
4" hawkbill
vg-10, 4mm thickness
14mm hole
flat-grind
slight choil(have to with the native style handle)
COMPRESSION LOCK

tip of 'bill ends about 1/4" from back of handle, allowing for thinnner carry in your pocket

tip down, allowing for spydie drop

Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Hmmm...

Size: the size of a Military
Main design: Harpy
Handle material: G-10
Blade material: VG-10
Lock type: lock back with SecurLock from Centofante
Blade type: 40/60, with the 40 being serrations and the 60 being plane, the serrations would be at the tip though

Hey yog :

Howz this : Handle shape, like that of the Pegasus/Navigator/Meerkat in G-10. Standard
lock back ( no need to reinvent the wheel ),
blade : Meerkat reverse "S" pattern PE, with
a polished clip ( like on the "cricket"with
the option of "tip up" or "tip down" carry availible in 440C or VG-10

Black or dark blue G-10 Native-style handle with steel liners, with some extra length and the butt end of the handle tapered to a blunt point that extends slightly beyond the botom of the hand. Also put a nylon bushing in the pivot for extra smooth action.

Blade, I'll take a full-size Calypso-shaped blade, packing as much blade as you can into the handle. Flat saber grind with a large flat-ground swedge on top. A slightly smaller choil than the Native, but more than the Calypso, and a blade hump with a larger opening hole (11mm or wider, preferably 12mm)and shallow texturing grooves on the back of the hump, like the Native, but shallow enough to avoid compromising the strength of the metal around the round hole.

Indexing divots in both G-10 scales, and a Lil' Temperance-style clip, so it can be easily indexed with or without the clip. The clip would carry it tip-up, either left- or right-handed. The lock would be a compression lock that would be pushed to the left to close, like the Salsa.

Wise man say, forgiveness is divine. Remember that when your <img src="http://www.spyderco.com/forum/spyder.gif" border=0> bites you!

A G-10 Rookie about half an inch bigger handle, with a VG-10 flat ground blade.

Why should assemble it from different parts as long as it is The Delica? (but I'd take the SS model with a VG10 blade, fully serrated - I got dabs on spyderedge).

For me they have already made the perfect knife in a folder, it's our PE inlay Vesuvious! Other then that I would like to see a large version of the Dragonfly. They could call it the Superfly. It would be a 4 1/4" or 4 1/2" closed version, with stainless liners, & G-10 handles(preferably in blue), ala the Chinook, Rookie etc. The steels I would most like to see would be ATS-34, 440C, or VG-10. The clip would be clip up. RKBA!

An awlful lot of knives here that I wouldn't hesitate to buy.

So, I guess we're all G-10 freeks around here then

The best new name has got to be Alan2112's "Superfly".

Walk softly, carry a big stick.

Oh I would HAVE to buy a Superfly!!!

I would like to see a roughly Delica sized Jester (basically a LW Progrip with the finger grooves and different blade tip).

I suspect that the Trakker, or a G10 version, could well be the perfect knife....

How about a green G-10 large blade Chinese folder?? Yeah! or a 5" blade Shabaria with G-10 handles.
