I officially got bit by the Spydie bug this weekend, actually, he bit quite a while back, but he sunk his teeth to the bone Saturday.

I was running around some of the sporting goods/gun stores in the area and after the third one or so I asked if there were any other places that sold Spyderco knives in the area. The salesman told me about a small shop about 15 minutes away in another town that was strictly a knife/hatchet?!? shop. So I run over there, it is a small shop maybe 15' wide by 100' long and has a decent selection. The first case had some older, flea market/antique stuff, next had a large selection of Benchmade knives with some others scattered in, a few high end knives and then in about the last 3' of that case was the Spydercos. He had about 20 Spydies, all of them older but new-in-box. Then I started looking at the prices $20-$35 dollars. At this point I'm thinking, that the heck is this guy running here? It turns out that he has been there for quite a while and just can't make it, he is closing up shop. I ended up with:

1 AUS-8 PE FRN Endura, plastic clip

1 AUS-8 SE FRN Delica, plastic clip

1 Q, HK cutout, ? steel

Get this......for only $60 total

The ends of the boxes show different months of 1997, I assume that this is when they were born. This adds to my PS FRN Jess Horn and PE FRN Walker.

Some of the Spydies I had to leave for another included; ($20-$35 range, all in NIB condition)

-another Q HK cutout

-Almite(I think) Copilot

-SS Mariner (maybe used)

-Older Blackhawk

-Small Progrip?

-(2) Snap-its

-several others I did not recognize, looked like '97 vintage, the rest were smaller than a Delica (I end up hurting myself opening knives much smaller than that).

If anybody in interested in this shop it is in extreme Southern Illinois, e-mail me for more information.

ROM831,
That's quite a jackpot you have there. That Q (HK) is CPM440 steel. If you paid $30-$40 that a deal. Q's have been being sold anywhere from $60-$150 on e-bay. The HK's not the rarest but would be nice for anyone collecting them. I'd inquire but I'm awaiting my recent delivery from Japan, so I can't spend more now.

Chris

No carbon fiber, it was mostly the low to mid level Spydies, nothing high end. There were about 5 SS models and the rest were FRN, G10, etc. Although the owner was carrying, (and let me play with) a Ti handle Bob Lum Tanto !sweet! and another customer offered to sell me a Starmate. He didn't have it with him at the time though.

Thanks Boxer, I was wondering what steel the Q was. I was not able to find any info online about it.

Edited cause my brain is slipping gears this morning.

The c35 'Q' line has 440C steel in it. Great edge taking, great corrosion resist, but it's not known for edge holding.

Good thing I still have 8 to spare...
