It may seem an odd question for a forum of this profile, but I've been wondering if there is anyone who will admit that he/she doesn't like a particular type of . As someone here likes to say "we all operate on different levels of perfection", and I'm aware of that. I just read so many posts of "I love my model..." but none to say "I don't like that model"... For instance, with all do respect, I don't like neither the Ocelot, nor the Vesuvius. It just won't match my personality, I think, and I reassure you that I don't intend to offend anyone by saying this. If there is a model you don't like, I'd be interested to know also some reasons why.

My least favorites would have to be the Shabaria and the MeerKat. The Shabaria absolutely turns me off in looks, while the Meerkat looks vaguely toylike to me.

I like 99% of what puts out, these two just don't appeal to me.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

If I had to choose I would say the Ladybug I, because the Jester eliminates the need for it, sorta

I don't think it's a case of "not liking" them, but I have yet to buy a "tip down" only model. It's more a case that my first was tip up, I got used to that arrangement, and I'm sticking with it. Even that may change someday - I'm often tempted to buy a SS Police just because it's such a Spyderco classic. Who knows......

The Native. It just looks to small and stumpy, and the blade looks funny. I like the looks of the Pride(? full size Native), but the Native is not for me.

A fair question, we're not just sheep after all

There are two knives that I have never handled but at the momment couldn't imagine buying just on looks alone, and they are the Sabaria and the Toad, I just don't like their lines.

I'm a little sceptical of the Salsa, if only because of the cobra hood. Spyderco designs to me seem to typefied by clean simple lines, but I'm afraid the cobra hood seems like a bit of a kludge.
The pepper emblem doesn't help as that also seems to be at odds with what I consider another of Spyderco's qualities, "serious tools for serious people".

Usually because I have to buy all my knives mail order I have always felt that once I get a Spyderco in the hand the reality far outshines the catalogue picture. The only exception to date (and it may be contrivertial) is the Mouse. It's undoubtably an excellent knife and I don't regret buying it, but I also don't regret swapping it for a CF Cricket. For some reason the Mouse just didn't "do it" for me.

Other than that I would be proud to have all other Spyderco's (past and present) in my collection.

The Shabaria... it's odd handle shape just doesn't work in my hands.

The salsa just looks "stumpy". I have only seen pics from the side, and have yet to handle one myself, but don't think I'll buy one.

LBK II, no point to having that shape of blade on somehting that small.

The Toad-to small easy to cut myself same goes for the mouse although I think I would have liked it if I had smaller hands. The Salsa,it just does not feel good in my hand. There is a couple of others that I don't like the looks of but I haven't handled them so I don't want to say I don't like them,I did that with the Native and it turned out to be one of my favorites.

So far I'm not too sure about the Forum Vesuvius. It's beautiful!!! (you guys/gals yet to get them be patient) but I'm not sold on the compression lock. It's kinda stiff and sticky and recess is a bit small and in an odd position. Maybe just not enough break in yet. Only the lock is in question. Maybe I just need break'in. Otherwise I can't say I dislike any SpyderCo knife I have or have handled. Sure like all that I own.

Not true Dialex! read my earlier post about the lil temperance. we al have different reasons what ever they may be for liking a particular model...some designs just dont suit us ala the temperance..im sure its a very well made knife and i do love the compression lock..but i think its butt ugly lol sorry guys! Im also not keen on the salsa, i lean more towards the working type designs like the police , milli, endura, delica, native, and i saw someone say that the native didnt appeal..in my case its 1 of my favorites....just different strokes for different folks.. It's an odd world
That's 2 people who didn't get on with the Native, yet I consider it in the top 5 of all time Spyderco designs

Jaxon
Yep, the Vesuvius takes some breaking in, but the effort is worth it. I too had some issues when I first got it, mainly do to the tight compression lock and small recess. Now the compression lock is very slick (but I'd have to admit I still think the recess is a tad too small).
This knife has grown on me so much I'm thinking of getting a 50/50 (my first ever) version as a backup.

I'd have to say the Bob Lum folding tanto. It's a pretty good design, but the lines just don't look right, and I make it a point not to trust linerlocks, especially in hard-use situations, like in a fight. The fixed-blade tanto is fine, though; if I thought I'd use it, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

Apart from that, there are few s I have misgivings about that wouldn't be overcome with a hands-on experience of the knife. As I said, I'm wary of liner locks, but otherwise the Military, blue Lum chinese, and Tim Zowada would be great to have. The Lil' Temperance would be a great purchase, even sight unseen... If it came in some other color than olive green. Even dark blue would fit under the "anything but black" policy that has been leaning toward for some of their new designs.

Toad, mouse and likesize models.
With the exception of the cricket and meerkat, they have aggresive enough profiles to be used as a decent finger spur. Most blades under 3" most likely have to be utilized as spurs more than full blown knives. To get enough of a secure purchase on the handle one must pretty much override the blade to a degree to anchor the handle back in their hand.IMO

/obnoxious on/

Toad - is just like so much gosh awful...uuuuch.

Lil Temp and Salsa I think the Cobra Hood is just a cheap gimmick. Temp is just too ugly. I think the Temp is aimed at the teen market and the Salsa on guys (or girls) that don't have a C note to spend on a real knife.

Police Model Necklace..silly, real men don't wear a necklace and a woman with class wouldn't wear this kind of thing. My mom carries a Civ and she means business. Oh, you wear a necklace? Betcha you got lace on your panties too.

Peter Herbst Autumn folder - I haven't seen one in real life, but in the pics this is one ugly knife. Handle looks like oxydized aluminium. Hideous.

Moran Featherweight and Droppoint, Bob Lum Fixed Blade Tanto and the Fred Perin - These look like kitchen knives, dang good looking kitchen knives, but kitchen knives just the same.

Spydercard - just gitcha a Ladybug for your keychain and forget it

Gunting - I hate martial bladecraft, get a gun instead. Didja ever see Indiana Jones where he blows away the sword wangler? This is what I'm talking about. Either keep your butt in a safe area and be a wimp like me or carry a cannon and be a real man.

/obnoxious off /

On the other hand, I really love everything else that Spyderco makes. My next knife may well be a Civ. I'm tired of being scared of turning the corner and meeting my mom.

I guess that I would have to say the Shabaria and the Toad. The Shabaria just doesn't feel right in my hand. The Toad is too small for anything but a moneyclip.

It is definitely a surprising result! First, to find out that there are people to whine about . Second, the Shabaria is one of my favorites, yet most of you dislike it. But you're right about the Mouse, it's ugly . I was just embarased to say it first. (I'm a newcomer, in fact).

I'm probably the odd man out here, but I really dislike the Chinook. In fact I think it's the most butt ugly knife I've ever seen and overweight to boot (sounds like a guest on the Jerry Springer show ). OTOH I like the Shabaria and would buy one except that I doubt that I would ever carry it.

CK,

Don't make me go full on ya'! My wife also wears a Police Mini darn near all the time!! What's your call on the Mini Mariner with abalone scales - now there's some class!!

Joshin' aside,(Hate is such a strong word) I never met a co I didn't like!! I had it in for Shabaria until I handled it and found the shape gave you a couple of inches extra reach if needed. The blade is sinuous and wicked sharp. Wasn't too keen on the Dyad for a while - until SMKW made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The Gunting?? Okay it looks a little strange but the Kin Op feature is hard to beat and it has pretty good feel to it. Just ordered the "drone" from Glasshartt with "live" version to follow. Performance wise, I have never been disappointed with ANY co. On looks, well maybe I'd have to close my eyes but I would still happily welcome a Jot Singh Khalsa into the fold. For those of you who do not like the Shabaria, you must not have ever handled one. I currently own 12 Spydercos and the Shabaria is my definite favorite. I carry it just about everyday. It has a perfect fit and the blade is just something wicked. Also, very sharp. VG-10 is hard to beat. As far as a linerlock giving in a knifefight, I would think that the quality and integrity of Spyderco knives should be enough reassurance.

I have 2 Shabaria's myself. It is one of my favorites. Those who have one and don't like it, send it to me. I'll give it an excellent home! (I'll be sure to pass one onto Clay also)
The Toad I didn't like until I saw it closed. Then it reminded me of a raindrop, and since then I've grown fond of it. I like it better closed, then open, but I do plan on getting another one someday.(My brother has my first one.)
At least we all can agree on liking the Spyderco opening hole.

Just to make this clear... I have handled nearly every I can get up here. There are only a few models I haven't have the fortune of fondling. I gave the Shabaria a shot, and spent about 30-45min trying to find a comfortable hold on it. It fits my hand, it's just awkward as my fingers roll around the thin(top to bottom, not width) handle...

I was so busy defending the Shabaria, I forgot to post my least favorite. I would say the only Spyderco in my collection that I never carry is the Jess Horn lightweight. To me, it just kinda seems like an old Case or Buck hunting knife with an FRN handle put on. Believe it or not, it happened to be the first Spyderco I ever purchased. I guess some respect is deserved since the Horn bit me and gave me the bug.

I guess Spyderco must be glad that different people find different models appealing. The FRN Jess Horn is one of my EDCs and a black Micarta Jess Horn is my "dress" model. On the other hand, I don't find the Shabaria appealing at all. At least Spyderco has a model for almost every individuals taste!
